GT5 Prologue trailer right here !!

To be honest i don't care how they made the mountains looks so good, as long as they do look good :) Don't spoil the magic!! lol

As for GT sounds, the engine noises etc i always really enjoyed, i remember when i got GT2 and the whoosh bangs of the turbos i loved it. But they really need to sort the breaking noise out.
Wowowowowowowowowowowowowow i mean wtf??
Least they sorted that out in FM2 from FM1

i find it quite ridiculous that you have accurately recreated the sound of braking in Gran Turismo. :p

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW.

I suppose that just highlights how bad it is :D

Hmm not overly convinced that's in game - however that doesn't change the fact it looks very good.

This could be the title that persuades me to get a PS3 :)

The sound of electric guitars when you brake? Less of the acid trips mate ;)

I thought GT:HD was the best looking racer in years. It's still better looking than every other released console racer today. Totally expect GT5 to be a masterpiece.

just got round to see this, if that actual real time in game footage then well done, but i fear its the usual replay mode, even the GT demo doesn't look nothing like that

GT:HD does have nice looking cars but it's not hard to make them look miles better than any other racer when there's only one on the screen.

If the cars in this trailer are actual in game models, then they'll be making many other games developers look like fools, but I have my doubts.

I like the trailer..

It shows the direction Sony are taking with some of their titles..

If you look at the probable ingame bits, there is little evidence of dynamic lighting and reflections, it's all hashed, a basic sky texture is all you see in *** reflection of the Nissan at the end, it seems only close track objects reflect, despite the surrounding buildings etc.

So technically, I'm not convinced it's that advanced..
HOWEVER, it looks really really good, the effect is realistic looking cars, etc..

I think when Forza went all realtime reflections/lighting, etc, etc it is technically great, but the result is a bit visually underwhelming (But the game is superb).. with GT5 Prologue (and GT:HD) they lack technically, but produce a visually pleasing result..

This is also slightly the case with Killzone2, they have to use deferred rendering with only small dynamic element to get that stunning trailer, which on the surface looks the dogs, but when you see of the parts where the lighting is all screwed up, you suddenly realise some of it is a bit of a facard and clearly a bit false.. but the result is very very pleasing..

Deferred rendering is quite intensive and hard to do right, so a lack of technical proficency is not a valid point and the fact of using one rendering method over another does not mean one is lacking compared to the other as that point of view can be reversed to suit the otherside also. Killzone is still quite early in its development stage so optimisations have still to be done ( usually done in the last 6 months of development. And the deferred rendering method has enabled full screen 4x msaa in killzone which is excellent ( something missing from other titles on both platforms. And as you say forza 2 was made by one set of devs with their own ideas and methods as was gt5 so different methods produce different results and which one is better is a matter of opinion, and I think both will have their own strengths and faults but hopefully gt5 produces a good game just as forza did but a different game and experience which means there is value in playing both.

I very much doubt the true games visuals will offer the crispness of this video.
PS3 is terribly plauged with many titles not using AA.

Now are we really going to believe that the visuals on show in 1080p and including 60 fps with no jaggies at all visible is what we should expect.

Ive no doubt the system can produce fantastic looking games but ingame visuals to the trailer quality is wishfull thinking. Once again 8 cars seems to be the limit yet the 2005 videos had what about 20 cars?

(reaches for the kettle)

Has it been confirmed this game will ship at 1080p ?, and 4xFSAA is in KZ2 would this fact not make it more likely that gt5 can acheive this aswell?

as was always the plan, but unfortunately most devs aren't bothering to work that way, and loading the rsx with the rendering work outright

Okie dokies, well...

First impression.. not that great. The cars themselves are nice, solid and far superior in their modelling than those from Forza 2, that must be said, but hell, I was very disappointed with the cars in Forza 2 which suffered from schoolboy errors in the modelling process (and I mean schoolboy).

The track environments that were shown were dull, lifeless and boring, no different to Forza 2 except with more notable texture tilling for grass which is a shame.

The city environments look impressive at first glance, but the models are actually quite flat and don't really feature the standard of lighting we have seen from PGR4's early renders which is a shame. The textures used on certain parts of these environments are remarkably low, which in it's own isn't a surprise for obvious reasons, but to make them so clear IS a surprise, especially on the last shot with the fading screen of the car in a UK crossroads, look to the right and pretty much everything there is running on very low textures which haven't been touched up with dirt maps or simple textures to make them look worn, something which is more noticable in game once you know it's there (much like the flat sprites in Motorstorm).

As for whether it's in engine or not, it clearly is in engine, the debate of course is whether it's in game, most of it, to me at least looks like it is, the night track with the city lighting however looks very much like it's from a replay as opposed to real time lighting whilst playing, but even then I'm sure it will look good.

The only problem I have is that it shows the cars with all this environmental reflectionism, yet the building shown don't have any form of environmental lighting on them at all, at least not yet.

I am underwhelmed as I also was with GT:HD, but at least this is a step up. Of course, when all is said and done, GT games are usually top-drawer stuff, so I can't wait for it, but as I keep mentioning, it must be quicker to play than GT:HD.

...it looks good.
All I was doing was putting an honest insite from someone (me) who knows about this stuff. I'm sure other members here (Herminator and Nintenjo) would also say the same as I have.

i doubt it will be at first, one of the major appeals of gt has always been starting in a slow banger and feeling it develop into something quicker and quicker and then moving upto the next not-as-slow banger.

its always been a great progression in previous GT's and adds a nice sense of satisfaction in feeling the small increments of pace after each upgrade etc.

if it was quick out of the box then that would be half the game gone imho.

they really need to sort out the ***- if they are putting nitrious in the game again. like minimum price for a massive boost whoch can do you for a 5 lap race, then it gets fully recharged for the next race free of charge?

i try not to buy it where possible, but they have made it too easy to ***- any car and just beat everyone;/

apart from GT4, once you get into extreme hall its all about the ultra fastest 1.00 p/w ratio cars. no extreme challenges with JGTC cars? i bought the Takada NSX but its only really useful in about 2 championships. same with the lower end touring cars, where can you use them? by the time you have won them/bought them there are no races left where you can either enter them, or where they would be competative. for me the game skip[s over the middle part of speed development too quickly and just tips totally towards 700+bhp cars by the end, and for me thats less fun:/
