GTA IV ads pulled down in US

I bet there was billboard ads every all over the US in 2000 when "Gone in Sixty Seconds" was due out for cinema release and that was all about Grand Theft Auto (not the game) and violent in some parts of the film. I bet them ads weren't pulled. Anyway, with the current media attention to the ads, they have given more "free" advertisment on GTAIV by covering it. LOL

Lots of good comments here.

Vidoes games, films, TV shows, books etc do not make people go and steal, fight or kill.

For anyone to say it does is stupid, and someone has to be a bit wrong in the head for it to make them do it. Or they just want to try and get away with it when they get cought.

And its the perents job to make sure thier kids know right from wrong. And people trying to ban violent games. Need to ban everything, even comedy shows (how many times have you seen someone get hit or anything else in comedy).

Why do they sell toy guns for little children, does that not teach them that war and violance is ok.

We need to let each person decide what it is they want to watch, play or read.

Who has the right for anyone to chose what is right for me. Its ment to be a free world right. lol

I could never get the hookers thing to work in VC :\

When parents take responsibility for their kids then they should be allowed to play whatever games they feel like letting them.

Americans are silly.

Maybe the way the ad is laid out is has some sort of subliminal messaging to those people that have a violent streak hidden away somewhere, and as soon as they see the ad, they flip.

There is always so much hoo-har about the GTA games, if they were really the cause for all the shootings/real GTA etc then surely they would have been stopped after the first 2?.

Maybe they should do a survey/analysis on gun crime before the GTAs came out and during their release to see if there is some sort of correlation between the 2. I cant see there being one, as per usual the gaming industry is seen as the scapegoat.

When I was little I used to play GTA on the PS1 and I had lots of fun going around murdering people and driving like a looney, was awsome, then in GTA pulling up to the side of the road and waiting for the prostitutes, was all good, but you dont see me going around on a killing spree murdering everyone, driving like a looney and shagging prostitutes.

lol pixel!!! i used to do that all the time :Pbut i mean come on it's just a game, and it is rated 18 because it has content for adults only....parents shouldn;'t buy the game for their kids.... and im sure it's illegal to buy it for a person under the age and you can go to jail, it's like the kids on the street asking for a spare cig or for you to go into the shop and get booze for them :p 4 simple words "not until you're older" :D and walk off :p
hehe....

back to the subject at hand tho, if someone commits a crime and blames a game for it there should have been tell tale signs much earlier on and they should have been given help.

as for the ad's i can see why people want it taken off busses and things but you can't hid everything bad in this world unfortunatly so it's down to guidence from schools and parents to teach their kids.

My parents bought me stuff that was for 18's and over when I was like 9,10,11 etc.., they bought me lottery tickets too.

As for the ads they were not that bad they looked quite good, should not have taken them down.

From what I've seen of the publicity for the game it hasnt been that bad. When are the adverts for the game shown on TV? From what I saw of the adverts on the side of the bus they didnt show anything other than a few characters and the name of the game. This is nothing in comparison to some of the adverts I saw for the Rambo movie when it came out a few months ago on the side of bus shelters in glasgow, they had a back shot of stallone, with a knife in one hand and a fair amount of blood dripping of his arm/knife. I cant remember reading any sort of outrage towards the publicity for that film.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I havent seen any of the bus adverts for GTA IV other than what was in that fox vid.
