GTA IV and Graphics Card Memory

On graphics settings page it shows how much Vram you will use at current settings versus available Vram.

As you change settings it shows you what affect it will have on V Ram usage. The big Vram eaters are view distance and texture settings.

I use a view distance of 42 at a res of 1680x1025 with a traffic density of 70. The rest is maxed out....

Runs at 25-50fps, lovely old job.

Q6600@ 3.3 and 4870x2 by the way.

I wouldn't be happy if I had a quad core 3.3 and the fastest gfx card on the planet and only got 25fps at low res. Even if it's only every now and again.:confused:

i've seen 72fps average (1440x900) on a nvidia 260 -not my pc, i posted it in the GTA4 thread

I have too, was a i7 PC and GTX 260 SLi.

i thought when i bought a 4870x2 it said 2gig memory on the box.

rockstar letus down i dont care what enyone says they did.

9800GX2 = 512MB Ram
4870X2 = 1GB Ram

2x 512MB or 1GB does not equal to 1GB or 2GB... As far as I am aware the data on one set of 1GB of the memory on the 4870X2 or any card has to be cloned, so you are using 2GB memory when you are using the full amount of 1, this is because the other half has to be the same for the other GPU..

What settings eliminate the weird texture pop-up if you turn around quickly? Shouldn't the game be caching textures near you? Looks horrible when you're driving around and much more of an annoyance than pop up of things in the distance IMO.

It'll have to be fixed in a patch that, I cant find any way to stop it by altering settings.

Its difficult to agree with you, when you clearly don't understand how Vram and your card works......

I know how vram works dont try to tell me how it works or doesnt work...

I have 1gig dedicated per GPU on my card.
and this game only uses 1gig of it.

or 512 per gpu when it should be useing as much as i select in the game.
i know what im talking about

admit it, we got s****** ;) though it kinda sucks i dont really care anyway i have the game for 360 i was just expecting the game to be better in every way on the pc version

but its been a huge dissapointment.

You dont know how it works... :rolleyes:

You've just proved us correct in that post...

You have 1GB PER GPU, both sets of 1GB have the same data on it, it is literally "cloned"

The amount of memory is 1GB of the same data.

If it was using 512MB per GPU you would have a 4870X2 1GB (And they don't make those....)

After reading your post again I think you're trying to joke anyway..... :\

is there any generic windows program (like fraps) that displays similar info on screen so you can see whether gpu or cpu is struggling?

Well you learn something every day dont you.

why the freakin hell didnt ATI plaster 2gig 1gig cloned per Gpu would have made more sence...

i didnt know the other 1gig was cloned memory

well that sucks, when i bought the card i thought it was 2gig that wasnt cloned. hehe

Doesnt this game on low settings/res = same graphics as Console version?

Are people complaining that they cant run it on high/full settings ? The game should have just made low = med and med = high instead of leaving more room for improved hardware. That way it will run quick on high and everyone would be happy.

Because if you wanted a true 2GB dual GPU card you would need to have 4GB of memory, and for a true 4GB that would be 8GB and for a true 8GB that would be 16GB of Memory and the costs would go up and up.

But on Low it looks even worse compared to the console version from what I have seen.
