GTA IV and Graphics Card Memory

finally got it running nice and smooth on my 4870x2! 1440x900, very high renderer, medium textures, all bars at max =]

Why medium textures at that res? I run high at 1680x1050.
Just turn view distance down. If you can spot any difference between 30 to 100 then you are a better man than me.

The consoles use a view distance of 20 and you can see for miles on that version.

i've just bought this game. its installing now. ill let u know how it runs on my system.. hopefuly at 1920x1080 it runs ok. tomorrow im receiveing my replacemeant 24" monitor so im really hoing the game is is ok at 1920x1200.

It's rubbish on all formats tbh, a bit like a mini-version of San Andreas with better graphics and all the fun taken out of it, oh and an annoying mobile phone. :p

its doing my head in some of this game. I keep getting the out of memory crash which is irritating as hell as its a ridiculously long load. More than anything the long ass load times make me think far to much of the data is simply uncompressed and its loading far to much info in rather than streaming data for the area you're in/coming up to.

The game itself is pretty poor on the limited gameplayness. Inability to be a pimp, buy anything, makes loads of money and be a murderer for no reason but nothing to spend it on. But like you said the phone is just irritating, mostly lack of being able to get into a car while using it or run :(

I've just been reading about all the bloatware needed to play this game, GTA4 PC is one massive fail and I didn't think the console versions could get any worse.

35 odd frames on a gtx280 and fast CPU is hardly something to boast about though, i was considering getting this game, but will not bother now till next year or beyond when hardware catches up and the game will be much cheaper too

All this does is show that even a top end system the game is not going to be perfectly smooth, and going on the comments on the GTA thread in the pc games section, most users don't seem to get that great performance on this game, a shame as it should have been really good

Been playing the game for a few days now & I finally managed to fine tune the setting so that I can get a solid 60ish FPS.

But I'm very disappointed with R* and the games ridiculous requirements, If I want to play the game maxed out @ my native res (1920x1200) I need a 1.6GB GPU.

Can someone at R* please tell me where I can buy one?
but In the end the shocker for me is the lack of multi GPU support,
NO SLI SUPPORT on a game with such high requirements, WTF RockStar:confused::mad::confused:???????

Am I right in thinking that it's likely/possible that the GTA 4 textures will be re done by fans?

I know that happened for Oblivion...

Hi guys - not sure what all the fuss is about with regards to performance - it runs absolutly fine for me. I benchmarked it at 1680 * 1024 on medium using a view distance of 19; everything else on default and managed to get 57fps @ 68% CPU utilization.

I have a PowerColour HD 4870x2 2GB GDDR5 and it only recognises 1gb of my GPU ram, any ideas ?

It runs nice when it doesn't crash, even when I change my settings so it doesn't use too much GPU memory resource, I still get a 'REC10' out of memory crash every now and then !
