GTA IV and Graphics Card Memory

I wouldn't be happy if I had a quad core 3.3 and the fastest gfx card on the planet and only got 25fps at low res. Even if it's only every now and again.

Hmmm, I've played games on PC's for 10 years or so. That is long enough for me to realise that bottlenecks in the less than perfect architecture are to be expected.

This is a GTA game, peaks and troughs are going to happen when it comes to performance.

yet games like Grid manage to look stunning whilst still maintaining a solid 60fps at 1920x1080 with everything maxed out......
Blame the programmers, not the architecture.

I too have played PC games for 10 years or so, and video games for over 25 years. Never before have we had so much power, and yet never before have so many games been poorly optimised / optimised for one particular vendor. Half baked programming IMHO, getting the big buck from the consoles and a token gesture port to the PC platform, or sucking up to the GFX vendor that pays best. User satisfaction seems to be further down the list of priorities if you ask me...

THIS IS SO FLIPPING ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe i've bought 2 games both buggy as hell, both require patches on release day and in FM09's case still buggy.

When will companies realise that they way they are going about it is only creating one winner... piracy. Im considering taking both games back.

Its much easier to optimise a tunnel of graphics as that is effectively what driving games are. Driving games have always been the best looking games ever since I can remember. GTA4 is an open world and a big one at that. You simply cannot expect 60FPS at a silly res.

This is all a bit blah, blah as people have been saying this ever since I can remember too.

I have gta4 on 360 and pc and there are some quite bad slowdowns on the 360 I have hd2900@900/900 res 1680/1050 set on medium with C2D [email protected] 8mb ram on vista64 and its quite smooth with the odd slowdown. Picture quality the pc version is better much sharper when you fly over the city in the chopper but not so obvious when driving about.I did the comparison with both plugged into hdmi on the plasma and switch between ports.

Binned it literally my second this year after stalker clear skies of the 50+ games i have played on my system only these two have had me spending more time troubleshooting then playing and thats not what i buy a game for. It is badly coded\optimised and really is just ripping off us pc owners so rockstar can shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
