** GTA IV: It feels like a chore to continue playing SP mode thread**

Just though I'd add to the thread, I went to my brothers today, WHo also has the game, and he's 60% of the way through, and has decided he cannot be assed to go any further. It's bored him to tears. As It did me, and a lot in this thread.

Shame

Next mission completes it basically. May aswell finish it.

This happens with every game, Bioshock, Halo 3 now this. Are people really surprised that not everyone thinks its a 10/10 game? either you're all fussy ******** or the game won't appeal to everyone. Personally I love it.

is it fair to say most who dont like it have it on ps3
same ones who proclaimed it a must buy when ign said ps3 version was best
now 360 version is best and the ps3 fans say its not that good
just a observation from how it looks

Not to the extent of GTA4 though. A lot of reviews divulged in the hyperbole far far too much. 'oscar worthy acting' 'most content of any game ever' 'most realistic animation' 'amazing plot' etc etc. The reviews gush with so much praise it makes me squirm with unease. Both versions are ranked 97.5% on gamerankings, the most inflated and overrated score I've seen since I've started gaming. The amount of disagreement and disquiet voiced over such unamimous scoring is the most I've ever seen for any game in all my years, even Halo x (replace x with any number).

It's a great game, but the amount of people saying it's not worthy of 10 is staggering. A lot of people really just can't take the media seriously anymore, GTA4 was the tipping point for a lot of them, me included. Back to the bad old days of trying out games first hand and risking a good few bucks on a game with a nice case now.

Eh? I doubt it. The graphical differences are minor.

@KNiVES: I didn't read any reviews, but if those are the kinds of things they say then I am quite shocked/disappointed with the media.

I love the game , has lots of great stuff going on and its huge, 40 hours in and still 20 odd missions to go on the story, so definitely value for money.

however, there's no way ever its a 10/10 game, the reviews are over the top for sure. there's too much stuff not quite right, like controls/cover system feels un-natural to something like say uncharted's superior cover system.
Re-starting a level after failing still hasn't been satisfactorily been sorted, still a lot of faffing to reach the re-start at times.
I'd give it a 9, love this style of game, but vice city is still better than this.

I'll let him know then :p

Not really, Mine is 360 version, and so is my brothers. I don't see in any way shape of form, how you could have come to your conclusion, Considering the games are near enough identical.

I am allready bored of GTA IV after 4 hours, I dont know if I am just getting fed up of the whole GTA now I have been there done that etc.., but it just does not feel the same as the old GTA's which I enjoyed very much. Cant put my finger on it but there is something not quite right about GTA IV.

I don't think it's the whole GTA sandbox style as I recently played, finished 100% and loved Bully. I just think they've made the game not fun. The controls are sluggish, the cover system is haphazard, dying is a pain as you have to restock on ammo and do all the travelling again (I tend to get myself ready then save so I can just reload if I die) and it just lacks that 'must play, want to see what happens next vibe); It's just not an engaging fun game.

In fact every time I've put it on I think right what should I do next, a mission, a side quest, a social activity and then realise I just can't be bothered so end up putting something else on.

Answer text, press yes, back to start of mission with all your guns back you go.

I dunno, I'm not touching GTAIV too much (only now and then when I die without saving on Fire Emblem), and I'm still enjoying it. It's definitely lacking the "go anywhere, do anything" freedom of San Andreas, but tbh, it doesn't feel worlds away from GTA3, or even the original. It's a small(ish) city, you only really have cars to mess around in, and you make your fun with what you have.

Maybe people have been a bit spoilt by VC/SA? Things like fast cars, boats, helicopters, planes, easy-to-handle bikes, parachutes, loads of guns, and so on, were all accesible from the start, or close to it, so you didn't really have to wait to go and have fun.

I have bought ammo only twice in my whole time with the game and that was only so that I had some nades/rockets to get the Chain Reaction achievement. I don't get this driving to a gun shop and fully stocking up malarkey personally plenty of weps drop on the missions.
On the subject of GTA4 being dull I had been considering yesterday either starting a new save of SA or buying one of the ps2 versions of liberty/Vice city stories for a tenner and having myself some good old over the top GTA fun. For now I have stuck with exploring 4 mostly because the physics engine amuses me so much. :)

Completed it last night. Started to get a bit better towards the end but still don't think it was anywhere near saints row.
