** GTA IV: It feels like a chore to continue playing SP mode thread**

Why are people complaining about babysitting their friends? This isnt compulsary, you can be affirmative and say no, its only a computer game, you wont hurt rockstars feelings.

People complaining about the missions, the hint is in the name of the game, driving and shooting, what else did you expect? If you want more guidance and things put infront of you so you dont actually have to make an effort to complete a game then go play cod4.

If you cant be bothered taking the time to appreciate the many small things in this game which sets it apart from all the other games, then dont bother playing it.

Don't get me wrong dude, minor issues for me, this is my GOTY and probably my favourite game of the last 5 years!

I feel the game is too serious. As someone said, it is lacking a certain 'fun' factor.

I just can't wait for GTA IV - San Andreas. If you look at the leap from GTA 3 to SA in terms of size and content, in a few years time we are gonna have a bloody fantastic GTA game.

Dont get me wrong, I like this game, but I am finding it harder to pick it up everytime I come to it.

The more I play the game, the more I want all the customisation stuff from San Andreas. Which is odd, because in SA a lot of it felt pointless, but I've really begun to miss it in the rather sterile Liberty City.

The taxis are a godsend!
*snip

I know. I use 'em all the time. Trouble is there's never one around when you really want one. Until you get in one that is, and then they're everywhere...

Yup, i played from day of release, for a day, and haven't had the motivation to pick it up again despite being utterly bored with Lotro, was close to playing today and might do after the footie(assuming theres some footie).

THe problem isn't really the gameplay, it isn't really the irritating console style graphics with companies persuading us that focus and motion blur are realistic, and not to cover crappy performance. THe not being able to see stuff in the distance, the helicopter getting a semi decent height means everythings a complete blur underneath all spoil it somewhat especially as the upclose stuff just doesn't look good enough to really require such a drop off in detail at distance.

ALl that aside, what makes it yawn worthy is the incredibly, stupendously boring story. Cliche 1, followed by 2, followed infinitely up to where i got to bored to continue. At the end of the day graphics wouldn't mean a thing if the story was good enough to draw me into the game and make me care about what this guy is doing. But the characters are pathetic with every last one a ridiculous cliche. Original story is what makes games great. Mass Effect looked decent, its vehicle and sidequest stuff was appaling and much hated by most people, yet its a fantastic game because the story was brilliant.

Crap story + best ever graphics + best ever gameplay = average at best

Best story ever + poo graphics + not great gameplay = average to fantastic

Every truly top game I've played is story over everything else, every completely over hyped game thats more work than play has a cliche'd story often focused on graphics over everything else. When will they learn.

Also, game engine flaw thats still to be fixed and still the most irritating in the game. I'm driving a crap car, every car spawning around me is the same car, in the worst area of the richest district. If i finally find a sporty uber fast car, i get in and suddenly every 2nd car spawning around me is the same car. It can take ages to find a decent car, yet when you get one, they are everywhere. The whole starting area its incredibly hard to find something decent and fast which just makes it not fun. Once you've had a ride in the Banshee everything else is lame :p

The other crappy thing they've not fixed. A stupidly long following another car to a mission, only to go into a massive shoot out, die and start before the long drive rather than after it :(

Yeah I got taxis everywhere as the city is naff to drive around, definitely not the best GTA but far from the worst

drunkmaster, you're a pc graphcis whore. :D The graphics in GTA4 are fine, they don't need to be better than what they are. Crysis was a huge let down and the graphics in that game are amazing.

One thing that is starting to annoy me is when you're taking a phone call and you just get tapped by a car, closing the call. Oh and when the police are chasing you while you're in a phone call meaning . A. you can't run. B. you can't jump.

I have to agree. I loved Farcray - played it through twice, but I got completely bored with Crysis. Had Crysis been released a few years earlier I probably would have thought it was awesome, but I'm just a bit fedup with the FPS games tbh - apart from COD4 which was awesome, but then maybe they realised they needed to do something different as the format has become a bit stale??? Maybe this is the problem with GTA, for some people, too - played the format too many times???

I would say that in some ways this is the best GTA, but in others it isn't. It's quite difficult to judge it as it lacks the wow factor of the earlier games for me, but I'm still thoroughly enjoying it and it's definately a contender for GOTY for me :D

Just hang up, they'll call back.

I rarely take taxis unless I'm on first island and got to go to third island. I want it to last as long as possible. Only thing annoying is the whole friend thing, but I just reject them anyway.

I find the story so predictable I could have written a better script its like they watched a couple of gangster films and took out the best bits.

35% through and it does feel like a chore tbh. I want to get it completed so I can sell it while its worth something.

I'm about 20% and it's not doing it for me.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a Wii and I seem far more interested in Super Mario Galaxy and Zelda. I keep picking up GTA IV but thinking nah and preparing myself for some waggle time.

24hrs - 40% Just hit the third island.
Definitely not as fun/varied/funny as San Andreas. And yes a lot of missions just seem like chores - the main reason being that most missions are about 'some guy that wants some other guy dead for very little reason' and that even after such a long play time, Nikko is still a simple mercenary - he wants nothing but money and you can't even use that money for anything in particular, like actually climbing a business ladder in SA or buying properties.

And damnit NO, for the last time - I have better things to do than go on a virtual date with a virtual friend/gf  So stop bloody calling!

Im actually quite enjoying the missions :) Quite content and about 45% done, wouldnt mind a wee game later!

There are some bad wee points that have been raised tho, the business/property ladder lack of, the respawn of the car you are in, phone buttons interfering with game, starting a mission from the very start again... just wee things :(

What %age do you complete the game? Is it 100 or is there extra crap which gets you upto 100 outside on the main missions?
