GTA IV: <Out of video memory> error after upgrading GFX card from HD5850 to HD7870. Please help :(

I'll have to dl it tomorrow, do you think FXAA is better then the Enb AA? Cause I only see jaggies in the distance

Thats a good question. I havent compared the two but ...another project for weekend :D

What I will say is I dont notice jaggies using FXAA or ENB they both work brilliantly. And such clever ideas by their authors. I mean...GTA IV on PC with either of those makes the game look like it came out yesterday!

I like the look on console-owning buddies faces when they come over for a bash at GTA IV on my gamin rig :D

I agree, when I turn Forceantialiasing to true it kills my Fps and there's no visual difference it's weird cause some kind of AA is on whatever that option is, I think I'll look for the FXAA injector tomorrow too :)

The Injector I got came with a GUI that had sliders (or maybe all of them come with it?) Then you just keep ALT-TABing in & out of the game to make changes! This was how it was in the Skyrim one I got. ENB also comes with a similar interface using sliders (see my earlier link with screenshot of it)

:o

This game is quite unique, I know we have the older GTA's and also Saints Row. Saints Row should never be compared so I wont even bother as Saints Row is a gem in its own right. But this game, I just keep coming back to it all the time, it is a master piece imo with the DLC.

I agree..I still need to get the DLC but even with just the default game I keep coming back to it. You can generate your own mindless fun. Just drive around and ram into a cop car and then run..see how long you last while the stars increase! Fun to do this for a quick laugh if youre not in the mood for a long session.

GTA IV kind of got a bad press with regards to its storyline and presentation. Its darker and not as tongue-in-cheek as previous one..but I like it like that. Good to make something different. And the voice acting is SO brilliant (specially Niko) that you actually feel some attachment to them. Unlike Skyrim lol...

Yea Ice Enhancer has one to but 2.1 has only just been released and there updating the tool or something still :(

EDIT:

Just uninstalled Ice Enhancer and moved to the ENB you are using, looks 100x better then Ice and now have FXAA working seems less demanding too.

The 'brightness' seems off tbh and shadows are pretty dark, them screenshots were taken during 'extra sunny' using the trainer :P

I tried copy and pasting your config on page 2 but it messed up in the sense of that is WAYY over bright, should have took some pictures, any idea how to fix it?

Whats the best car pack, texture pack, and graphics mods for the steam version on EFLC?

I have crossfire 6950's which i have to disable to get good framerates as standard, but want to make it look as good as it can

Thanks!

Links would be great! Some mods dont say if they work with which version of the game etc

ICEnhancer 2.1 is blatantly the best choice for graphical improvement...

I love how my cracked, pirated version of 1.0.7 GTA IV worked fine with any mod I tried, yet my legit, Steam version of 1.0.7 GTA IV refuses to do anything, even forced anti aliasing by itself ruins it, makes the bloody shadows of stuff follow you around.

If the picture is larger than 1024 pixels wide then please just link to it or resize it. Thank you.

Will check that out over the weekend! Now that I know GioNights works well I'll image the GTA IV installation with it and then Im free to mess about with other enbs!!

That was sarcasm mate, the ICEnhancer 2.1 broke my game completely. :p

If anyone is running 1.0.7 like me, and cannot use SparkIV to mod in custom vehicles etc, or is having trouble getting custom .image files working for mods, try this car pack:

https://rapidshare.com/#!download|762p5|2545879967|The_Extended_Car_Pack__v2_GTA4.rar|270565|0|0

It is a pre-edited .iso file for GTA IV (the game runs from .iso files as you probably know) that you just drag and drop into your GTA IV folder and automatically gives you the vehicles, enjoy!

Oh :D

I didnt connect the two comments you made in the original post!!

Youre lucky you are running the game ok on the 1.7 patch. For me that patch was a nightmare and I didnt waste anytime re-installing the game and patching to 1.4 And 1.4 is where I will stay until the Sun expands into red giant and swallows us all.

1.0.7 adds AMD support, anything below and my game runs like hell, I really hope GTA V doesn't have these kind of issues, its the main reason I'm upgrading, if it is released and takes future technology to run properly like IV did, its going to be so disappointing!

On a bright note, GTA V graphics look similar to ICEnhancer, except obviously it wont be post-processed in and won't look cheap.
