GTA IV: <Out of video memory> error after upgrading GFX card from HD5850 to HD7870. Please help :(

Shall do it now :) does it improve the anti-aliasing? GTA is so ugly at a distance. :(

That is actually one of ENB best effects. Its a very clever thing by its creator.

Imagine a projector throwing a 50" image on a screen.

Now imagine taking that 50" image and shrinking it down to the size of your computer monitor. This virtual "squashing" gives the illusion of AA...and it works brilliantly. (Similar to to resizing a window by dragging its corner in Windows).

Its a good thing you asked because when you start the game you will find that the credits & menu of GTA IV dont fit on the screen...they run off the edge. **This is normal**

The menu will return to normal size once youre in the game. This is because the squashing takes place once the game has begun :D

Enjoy it, just backup first (in case you dont like it) and its all good ;)

I went with the RAGE ENB as the one you linked doesn't work on 1.0.7 it says, and my god, it literally feels like I'm playing on the low end of the ICE Enhancer, which is awesome! The game looks a lot more life-like now, gonna mod in some custom cars and guns next, and edit this zombie mod so everyone is infected. :D Thanks mate.

Oh sorry I forgot you were running 1.7 but glad you found one that runs on that version! :D

Zombie mod? Hmm will check that out!! Oh the cars look great..pan the camera around and see the alloys gleaming and such!

All info is here

Pictures are here

GTA IV has to be the easiest game to mod! Walking through the park with the ENB night effects (bloody dark as hell) with nothing but zombies is horrible, wish it had zombie audio though. :(

Wicked, cheers m8 checkin it out now and will download since net is fast at night as well. Clever idea for GTAIV Im sure a sound mod will appear one day. These things happen in stages!

True, but I'm not too sure if its supported anymore. :(

Can you help me with modding these cars in? Its bloody confusing.

run game, (if "MSVCR100.dll not found" error) - install Visual C++ 2010 Redistributables

run game, confirm that EPM scripts are loaded via dotnet console by pressing the Tilde key "~"

close console "~", get in vehicle, hit numpad 8 (numlock ON), write down the hash number,

then tweak moveDoors.ini vehicle hash numbers via Notepad = enjoi

I get that, its just where do I actually install the bloody car mod to? I have no idea where to put the actual data files for the car. :(

Im not at my gaming computer so Im not a 100% sure about this.

From what I remember you need a free program called SparkIV first.
http://games.softpedia.com/get/Tools/GTA-IV-Tool-SparkIV.shtml

Its a tool for modding and allows you to see inside the GTA game files. You then need to use Spark and navigate to the vehicle folder (vehicle image file) and import the mod.

**I have limited experience with GTA car modding so backup first before doing anything lol ***

Also here is a guide that might help
http://www.gamefront.com/how-to-install-and-run-gta-iv-mods/

I feel before you do anything else just image your entire GTA IV installation. That way..pace of mind. You will be able to go to town messing about knowing a full backup is always there. Its what I have done and saves a lot of tears if something goes balls up lol.

Yeah I just totally failed on the vehicle modding, had to download a vehicles.img from the net and replace the one in my directory because I balls'd it up haha. Think I'll give cars a miss for a while.

Do you have the Simple Trainer?? Easily one of the BEST most entertaining things out there for GTA IV. It can do a TON of stuff and is so easy to install - just dump 3 files into the GTA directory and thats it. Theres a readme in the download with all the commands.

You can spawn vehicles instantly with a key press. For example:

ALT + U = jetranger helicopter
ALT + T - blackhawk helicopter
ALT + F = Fetzer car

You can also control the weather & time of day...in real-time. You can also fix cars instantly. Tons of stuff. Its brilliant. And of course it can do infinite ammo and "never wanted" Cant be bothered driving to a mission location? Instant teleport.

I love you so much for posting this haha, the Left 4 Liberty mod had a load of nice gameplay changes (random weather, speed time up, become a N.O.O.S.E squad member, spawn a N.O.O.S.E squad member, to name a few :p) but this is nuts! I'm going to make a second installation of GTA IV I think, one for the Zombocalypse and one for normal gameplay. Can't really play it properly even when zombies are turned off, because every pedestrian still looks like one! :p

Lol oh yea its great. For example if you have to chase someone for miles in some mission dont bother with a car. Spawn a chopper and away you go.

Also if you you press CTRL +Z the nearest car goes kaboom lol. Nice and simple trainer. Nothing like hosing off endless RPGs at annoying copper copters. GTA IV never been more fun.

Well, just tried that trainer out, ended up with the statue of liberty, some gigantic jet, a load of skateboarding half pipes and **** just littered infront of Niko's apartment.

I like it. :p

I had the same issue as well as a bunch of other ones, the game would only select low settings and refuses to go higher because my software spec is apparently too low.

It's a shocking port. I haven't bought Max Payne 3 because of it.

Lol lemme guess...you spawned all kinds of stuff one after the other? A good way to get rid of spawned litter is the CTRL +Z command. Just go stand in the middle of them and do it :D Thats a readme file you have to print out cuz of so many commands!

I agree, literally a drag n drop from console to PC. They didnt even bother removing the console-messages like the one you see during a save-game: <<Saving game, please do not turn off your system>>

I really hope they are not going down this route with GTA V. And I hope they make trash like "social club" an optional installation. Such a waste of space and super-annoying!

You could try one of the ENBs, it cleverly tricks the game into forcing higher settings. My settings are WAY over what the default game allows with no problems.

It was not a drop and drag port as such, they did some extra work, for a start it looks a lot better then any console version. With a decent rig it runs perfect as well.

They did some extra work yeah, and for 2008 it was impressiveish, but all they really did was add in some support for PC features and smashed the resolution up. The decent rig comment I wouldn't agree with, though, you need a lot better than what a game of GTA's quality should take to run it without stutters. My rig for example is a 6850 1GB w/ FX-4100 @ 3.6Ghz, from what I've read my hardware is all in harmony with one another (lol) and push on another perfectly, so I'm running a pretty solid 1GB rig all around, the king of thing you'd of had to pay over £1,000 for in 2008. Infact the best card in 08 was a Nvidia 512MB, so to get the kind of performance we all get now would have been next to impossible in the year it was actually released.

The games unoptimized to ****, and is one of the worst ports going, but the game's core mechanics are so ****ing good, that I don't care, especially now AMD have fixed Rockstar's **** ups, and improved overall performance tenfold.

I had to reinstall GTA last night, because removing the ENB and restoring the files it replaced messed up my installation, but im running it back on vanilla now and prefer it, just wish there was some bloody proper anti-aliasing. :(

It doesn't add any queer lighting or shading effects does it? The only ENB I've actually liked is the Unreal one for Skyrim, but that's only because it just darkens the game in a realistic way and makes it look like The Witcher 2. :p

 this sounds amazing! Whats the fps hit like? Think I'll use this for Jaggielands (Borderlands) too.
