GTA V

What's the best course of action?

I have a 360, I haven't used it for more than 2 hours in 6 months, I know I will burn days playing this game though.

Do I
Buy it on release for 360
Buy a PS3 with the game on release (I only ask this in case the ps3 version will be significantly better than the 360 version)
Buy the PS4/XO and game whenever they're available together?

I see aliasing a'plenty... looks solid otherwise.
Yes, I've no problem seeing the footage as being from a PS3. Since I first saw GT5 running I've been impressed at what this old tech can manage, and Last of Us pushes the boundaries even further... in a low res, but perfectly acceptable way, once you get past the "OMG look at the pixels" factor.

Which doesn't take long in a great game.

Still, I'll be waiting for this in a Steam sale in 2 years' time on the PC. I never quite managed to get into GTA4.

no aliasing, no draw distance pop in, shadows look respectable etc.

the last of us isnt as complex as GTA V though is it.
It's so hard to tell on a down sampled video. I wouldn't be surprised to hear a lot of moaning about aliasing, texture and shadow quality come release. Don't get me wrong, current gen hardware and the scale of the game it's nothing short of amazing, but it's all a bit rose tinted at the moment.

I thought it looked like a mouse, the shooting seemed very accurate for a controller?
Could be one of their assisted aim modes. There are some links in the console thread to a game informer interview explaining the changes to the aiming mechanics. All sounds very good.

Sorry dude but I think your talking nonsense. Its a known fact that consoles peek towards the end of their lifespan, the devs work on these games for years so it always take a while to take full advantage of the machines capability's.

If you put that in game footage next to "the last of us" in game footage then you will see where I am coming from.

I'm a PC gamer, I own a PS3 but im not a fan boy of either, I am a fan of games, I don't care about the politics, allegiances or stupid console wars but sometimes this PC section has far to many fan boys. I seen a lot of this when the PS4 was announced - loads of you posting how the games are shown on PC hardware....well friggin DUHH, what do you think a gaming console is? its a machine that runs on a cpu with ram, a gfx card, a HDD and so on....

GTAV is yet to be announced for PC unfortunately so in the mean time enjoy it on your consoles and stop bitching that this gameplay demo was not running on a PS3 or 360, in my opinion your wrong and your not fully aware of the power that the current GEN still has to offer.

/rant

O shut up will you. Did I say I was a fan boy? No I own all consoles and pc.
The last of us, same with uncharted can only get that graphics because if it's very narrow corridor type game.

II pointed out the reason why I think this isn't running on console with Max Payne 3 as an example. Rocks tar couldn't use any of the graphics features we seeing in this gta5 on mp3 console.

So I give my example I didn't just bash fan boy it did I.

Now do one.

Assuming this doesn't get a PC release within a month of console release, I think I might buy this on PS3 rather than 360, the first for me when it comes to a choice. I think the extra power the PS3 has might make the difference, assuming Rockstar are good at utilising it.

Does anyone have any experience with both 360 and PS3 versions of previous Rockstar games and how their perfomance compares?

Not quite, Episodes from Liberty City is a stand-alone game.

Gay Tony and TLATD were both originally separate DLC for GTAIV before they were available in Episodes of Liberty City, that's just a compilation they released much later as a standalone game.

The PC version will most likely come out in march, and get announced in october/november.
At least judging by their previous modus operandi.

Funnily enough, I own PS3 and plan to buy PS4, but I could not play game like GTA5 on this old console. It just doesn't do the game justice. I will wait on full 1080p/60fps PC version. Cannot wait to see what modders will do with it too. When even GTA4 gets mods like Hulk, the stuff for GTA5 should be epic.

I'll get it on PS3 first off & if I like the game (almost a foregone conclusion really) I'll buy it on PC when some decent mods are available, I don't see the PS3 version being held back to much technically, sure it will look prettier but may not run that smoothly on PC like the last one which runs like a three legged dog on my aging rig.

360 has tended to be slightly better with past RS games... not much in it though tbh.

This is not from personal experience, but reading comparisons from Eurogamer etc... I have played RDR on a PS3, and own it on my 360, but without side by side comparison, could not see much difference.

Not quite, Episodes from Liberty City is a stand-alone game. The Lost and the Damned is somehow even worse than GTA4, but TBoGT is quality, reminiscent of San Andreas (because it's light-hearted and *fun*)
Spot on. Ballad of Gaye Tony brings GTA4 upto San Andreas/Saints Row levels in terms of mission quality. Whereas GTA4 had the dullest missions known to man, San Andreas/SR was totally the opposite, so BoGT corrected this flaw. Also the additional vehicles were superb.

Personally, GTA5 is the only reason I still have a launch day 360. I haven't used it in years though but have recently connected it up and updated to the latest advertising heavy dashboard (I cried a lot). Given that GTA5 comes on two discs I am half tempted to get a PS3 but I think i'll wait for information on the game first. Can't help thinking R* made a mistake using current gen consoles as their lead platform although its obvious to see why they did so.

The 360 wins as far as previous R* titles go, whereas the PS3 didn't fare as well.
