GTX 1060 To Be Announced on 7th July ?

Looks cool, but don't expect it to do more than trade blows with the 480 imo.

Well the 480 is about (looking at day 0 benchmarks) 60% of a 1070 .... so it seems likely that the 1060 will be at least at the performance level of the 480... but (if power draw scales properly nvidia side) with a much lower power draw

it depends if they have a 1060 Ti in the works if not I'd fuly expect the 1060 to beat the 480 and offer close to if not 980 performance with 6gb Vram for £250 that would be a good card 980 or beating performance with the Vram to back it up (y)

I wonder if Nvidia will match the price of the 480 with better specs??/

All they have to do is deliver 980+ perf. They can charge a bit more seeing tha the 480 is 970 perf.

If the 480 had been 980+ perf I'd buy one today. But alas, AMD could not deliver.

If the 1060 is 980+ perf it's an instant buy from me, at up to £250.

I will scream if it's 970/290 perf. Scream!

Looking at pure "shader processor" count :-

the 960 retail had 1024 vs the 970's 1664, this is 61% of the 970.

now running the same thing on 1070 (with its 1920 processor count) gives us :-

1920 * 0.61 = 1171.

Im gunna make a wild guess of a processor count for the 1060 of around 1280 to make it slightly better than the rx-480 ;)

NOTE i know very well that the shader processor isnt 1:1 with the overall performance of a card or haw gpu arch scales .... just musing and getting a ballpark idea :P

That's all Nvidia needs, though. They already own the marketshare, they dont need to be aggressive.

I disagree, this is a price bracket where people are price-conscious and Gsync premium is a thing, meanwhile Freesync has a bunch of affordable monitor options. Don't be so quick to ignore that advantage.

People that think the 1060 will be better than the 480, remember what happened with the 960 and arguably Nvidia were in a much better position then with Maxwell than they are now with Pascal. So if they couldn't pull a rabbit out of their hat and have a better than 380, why will they now? Aside from wishful thinking, like the one where people were expecting £175 980 performance from a 480.

If this doesn't smash the 970's back door in for £165 there's gonna be a riot.:p

It had better smash a 970, yes.

For me, up to £250.

It's not the price of the 480 that really irks, it's that they've failed to move on from 290 perf for three years now.

Everybody says it's a 380 replacement, but that only holds true if the price of the 4gb version holds at £180 ish.

But what about the 8GB version? Surely that's not a 380 replacement since the price is £240 (AIB will be higher!).

The 8GB version at £240+ must be a 290 replacement, yes? But it's the same perf. So I really don't get what AMD were thinking - specifically with the 8GB version.

The 1060 does need to smash the 970, yes. Let's hope it does, and stays under £250.

I know we have few details yet, but any thoughts on how the 6GB 1060 will likely perform at 1440p and with DX12 games compared to the GTX 970 & GTX 980?

If my target is 1440p @ 60fps, is it worth waiting for the 1060 or better to pick up a GTX 970 or 980 with the current discounts? The 1070 is ruled out for me because of price and the RX 480 I'm not really that impressed with given the reviews (and I would want to wait for a non-reference version anyway).

Only a week for the 1060 announcement.

None of them will do 1440p at max settings, so of course it just depends how much you're willing to dial settings back from max.
