GTX 1070 - any takers?

It's possibly not Nvidia to blame here. Looking at the US, the 1080 prices are all fairly reasonable. Seems like it could easily be UK/EU retailers jacking up the price because of limited supply and getting greedy when thinking about covering their import costs + tax.

fair point.
But demand was similar with 970 and prices remained reasonable.

It is funny how 1070 suddenly became not so popular option :) "Premium" GPU for the masses is gone.... It's very clear now that nvidia wanted to deliver solid punch to the competition with low price of 970 and now they're back with "normal" pricing.

On a positive note, if Nvidia continues with this pricing & performance scaling it means that 2nd hand cards will hold their value (imaging what 980ti would be worth if 1070 was £300). Meaning that if you want to upgrade you can recoup a big chunk of your original "investment". Performance gap between cards is more fair this time round. Remember silly 970 & 980 gap, where OC 970 could catch up easily with 980. Made no sense of buying 980 and their 2nd value plunged very quickly. It's evident now that there is a wider performance gap between 1070 and 1080 (around 30%). I mean overall, the performance is still disappointing and prices are very high but at least perf. relations between cards are more fair. Which puts potential resale value in a better position. Of course I just speculate here...

Well I order a Gigabyte 1070 G1 today.

I was hoping for a lower price, but I had a feeling they would be about £400. I have been with out a graphic card for over 2 months now since my last one broke, I just want to play games I want to play and not what my 6700k can play.

Now to get DOOM :D

I hear ya, same boat

"downgrading" gpu was actually pretty good in a way. There are plenty of games that don't need heavy weight gpu and are way way better than AAA titles (life is strange, ori, audiosurf). Hell, I've been still playing Battlefield bad company 2. I do want to play tomb raider, new shadow warrior and doom though :)

Exactly the same for me. Been without a card for a month now almost and it'll take another two weeks for my card to arrive anyway.

The market and my own situation basically forced my hand into buying a 1070. Although when I'm close to the 3 month date of my purchase I may upgrade to a 1080 with EVGAs step-up depending on a few factors. We'll see

use this opportunity to play some simple (yet fun) games.

South park the stick of truth
ori and the blind forest
rayman
monkey island 2
transisitor
the wolf among us
bastion
brother a tale of two sons

just to name a few :)

To be honest I've got three exams for my uni finals coming up this week so it doesn't bother me that much... The ~1 week wait after that will be painful though haha. Been waiting to play the new Witcher 3 DLC!

I've been meaning to play wolf among us too.. Gotta pick that up sometime

stock should be back in a couple of weeks....

didn't like the witcher 3. Books are way way better. Especially in polish :)

but wolf is epic...amazingly android version is exactly the same as PC (!)
life is strange is even more epic
bit of thread topic

Is the 1070 powerful enough for 1440p gaming? All bellsnwhistles?

depends what fps you are happy with

my "ideal" scenario is 100fps (min. not hitting less than 80fps).

at the moment neither 1080 or 1070 can give you that in demanding games (Tomb raider, dying light, ashes, doom). nvidia needs to get their act together. I know most people still game in 1080 but c'mmon we need x80 ti at reasonable price asap to enjoy silky smooth 1440p.
