GTX 1070 - any takers?

These should have come in at around £300 for for the FEs, and around £250 for the customs, with the TX dropping from £850+ to around £200, the 980Ti a bit cheaper for having half its vram, say around £150, and the 970/80 to around £40/£75.

Not too worried about my 980Ti losing much value with this news!

By the time we get competition and better prices the big cards will be out anyway, Vega/1080Ti. They really set the prices too high right now for what these new cards are.

If AMD could only get a decent card out in the next few weeks they could make a killing, sadly the 480 is not likely to be enough. im still not giving nvidia any more than my 300 quid budget out of principle, ill stick with my 760 unless AMD can pull something special out of the bag

the money's on the 970 replacement being a runaway success assuming its priced well.

Yeah...no. So that went well!

Sadly enough fools with too much money. Out of stock even at that price.

EURGH!

looks like i'll be sticking with my 970 for the foreseeable.

There are many who don't like these prices. What I don't understand is why you need to be so rude towards others. If and how they want to spend their money, that's none of your business.

You know the fox and the sour grapes story? That's how you sound basically.

As much as I would like a faster GPU (surround enhancements specifically) I can't justify £400 on 1070. 1080 is priced at what I consider to be "Ti" money so I will just hang on for now. I have an "old" Titan which runs fine at 1080p in the games I currently play.

Decided to downsize my case and increase my storage instead :p

+1 for waiting for prices to come down to a sensible level.

Indeed. Once a nice custom 1070 like the MSI gaming, EVGA SC, G1 can be had for ~£350 I will bite. Until then Nvidia can stick it.:p

and if AMD bring out something as fast and cheaper before then, I will just get that instead.

No just having a laugh at the guys who have been promoting Nvidia all the time. Maybe some will have had a dose of Nvidia without competition?

I'm not an enthusiast by any means (still running a 680 which I bought on release day way back when) so I thought a 1070 would be about my performance/price bracket this time round but certainly not at these prices. I have the money but don't really see the value.

Enthusiasts will push the boat out regardless but it sounds like nVidia will be missing out on the money from guys like me who, presumably, make up quite a large segment of their target market. Sure they'll sell there first wave of stock without too much trouble but when stock comes back in will it continue to shift at these prices or will it sit there while people like me wait for AMD and/or lower prices?

I guess they are looking at making money by gouging prices for early adopters and then just picking the rest of us up when prices settle down (if they settle down!). I've been green team for such a long time now that I'd not normally think of AMD but this time.....

What is the likely time-frame for the cards to drop to a normal price range (if £320-£330 can be considered normal)?

I don't mind waiting the summer out tbh.

Once there is loads of stock and retailers start competing with each other instead of selling out of the few they get in immediately at silly prices.

Their strategy is quite simple. They are milking it by charging full whack high end prices for the mid range cards and will only move them down to where they belong when the 1080ti/Titan come along.

Funny how they moved each gpu one tier up in price. I suspect a 1060 will cost between £200-£275 at this rate if AMD don't deliver..
