GTX 1070 - any takers?

Over £400!!! Nvidia....just wow.

GTX 970 was £260

And still is, mostly :)
Probably nVidia doesn't want to disappoint resellers who still have 970s in their warehouses. It should've been posiible to put 1070's price tag nearby 970, but both nVidia (if still producing old chips) and resellers want to suck money from two shelves ;-) Golden marketing rule is not to kill cash cow, but if one had a choice: replace one with another, or have two.... what would choose ? Market knows however that cash cow is located in strict price area and nVidia owners very soon understand this, I hope.

Not surprised with the pricing to be honest, it's NVidia after all.

What surprises me are some peoples reactions to the price, even with all the moaning these will still sell like hotcakes.

The nomenclature is confusing, but obviously deliberate on Nvidia's part. They never intended the 1070 to be a 970 replacement... it has taken the price point that 980 was, and the 1080 has taken the 980Ti pricing slot. Quite obvious now that the 1060 will slot in where the 970 was, and 1080Ti will take a new slot around the £800 mark. It's a money making scam pure and simple, and a brazen one at that! They are simply laughing, when it would have been so simple for them to name the cards differently. The 1070 should have been called the 1080, and the 1080 the 1090 or something... but no, they WANTED us to see their marketing and brand power, giving us the finger in the process. :(

MSI in my experience are one of the better vendors. Full 3 year warranty that transfers with the GPU if you sell it on.

No it doesn't. Only EVGA do this.

They do. They use the manufacturing date of the card to determine the warranty remaining.

MSI warranty is for original purchaser only.

Now, they may not ask for verification, and many 2nd hand cards might have been RMA'd by them, but they do not officially allow warranty transfer - as I say, only EVGA do this.

That isn't what ICDP said though is it. He's correct the warranty continues with card from the date of manufacture.

EVGA warranty transfer is different. The card must be registered by the original purchaser and then it can be transferred to the new owner.

If the EVGA card isn't registered I believe the manufacturing date is used instead to determine the amount of warranty remaining.

its people who buy on these prices and then we all expect nvidia to lower their prices . lol they going to up their prices more in next gen . good luck . AMD all the way . Nvidia can suck my hairy BOWLS

That doesn't really play out though. The titan x and 980ti are the same chip with the ti being the cut down version and the 980 and 970 are the same chip with the 970 being cut down. The 1080 and 1070 are the same ship with the 1070 being the cut down version. So there is in all likelihood going to be another faster pascal on the way which will be the new titan and ti. :( we can only guess as to what terrors the pricing of those are going to be.

Why would the 1080s get their price drop when the 1070s founders are there? Who would buy a £400 1070 founders when there are 1080s going for £450-550?

That's a good question and I agree with you. My point is that waiting for post-FE editions of the 1080 to surface hasn't gone very well so far, especially if you were really just hoping for a lower price.

I just did a search for 970 launch prices and found that ocuk were selling MSI Gaming for £281.99

The 1070 Gaming is £419.99

Almost a 50% hike in x70 prices in space of 18 months!

Obviously meant 1070 gaming and not 1080 as I originally wrote, apologies. Typo!

True, but the 1070 FE are bound to be effecting 1080 prices, and come July when the cards haven't sold as well as they'd hoped, prices may naturally fall ontop of FE being long gone. Heck if that £435 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070 I'm eyeing up has dropped to £399 I'll be happy. Paid £320 for this Windforce 670 I'm running back with the 6xx series.

Worse case scenario? We get a month prep to order the best lube before dropping £400+ on good brand 1070s.

Seems to me this forum is just full of misinformation lol. A load of bloated pretentious comments based on people saying what they want to hear.

A 980Ti owner will run around the forums saying terrible things about Pascal, Pascal owners will beat down others to justify their purchases, AMD/Nvidia fanboys will throw their weight around bashing on the other side..

If only the forums were slightly more dignified than that

P.S. Aftermarket 1070s are still too expensive (not disagreeing with that in my rant above)

Technically you are correct, I'm just speaking to how they've priced them in relation to what people were expecting given the naming 970/1070, 980/1080. This naming has inadvertently confused and consequently angered people more than I think alternate naming would have done. Not that people would have been happy at a £400+ GPU no matter what it was called, but the obvious tying in with the bargain that the 970 was has really not helped... not that it's going to struggle to sell regardless!
