What's the deal with Current (new) GTX 980 Ti Pricing ?

Abut 3/4 weeks ago since the release of Pascal they had dropped to give or take £350 brand new for a mid tier Aftermarket card. Since then they have steadily risen to the point they are at now where they are the best part of £500 for the same card!

I'd have thought retailer's would be keen to keep reducing pricing on these EOL cards to clear old inventory, or am I missing something bigger here ?

Yeah grabbed my Zotac Omega Edition for £350 delivered. Wasent sure if they would go lower, so i decided to bite. As a decent GX1070 was £400+ & performance wise fully OCed it would appear the GTX980ti argueably had a tiny lead I decided this couple with the pricing swayed me.

I was one of those that bought the GTX970 over the GTX780ti hoping with drivers that it would pull away but not convinced it ever did. So this time in a similar position i went for brute force option over efficiency.

Notice the Zotac Omega now £500. Eek!

Prices are awful of the new cards.

I got my asus strix for £359.99 and now it's roughly £100 more was going to get another for sli but **** that I'm not being milked on an EOL product.

I would have said its because theres not enough stock on the pascals, but looking at the store theres loads of them.

Im really glad i picked up 2 cards when i did.

Always the same and happens every generation.

Initially some retailers secure large quantities of remaining stocks at great prices and then sells them off cheap.

Once you only have a few cards left which are EOL the price normally then starts to rise. Ive even seen EOL cards end up being double the original price.

After all, if you have a certain waterblock for a custom card or you have matching cards in sli, you want an exact replacement.

Its been like this for over 10 years, I am surprised people didnt realise this?

I can only assume people thought last gen flagship fastest card was going to drop below £350? Was never going to happen.

Unless you were buying for a very specific reason I.e. Sli the 980ti's new now represent quote poor value for money vs 1070's from £370 and up. Its not unusual for some tech products to get quite expensive when there past eol due to scarcity. You only have to look at the prices of older memory modules to see this.
