Guild Wars 2

This only affects the cash shop though right? I have a CJS key and could play the game on a Euro server. If it's only the cash shop thats affected then it's only Arenanet that is losing out? If I can't put an address to buy cash items, then they are losing money!

I said the exact same thing to Gaile. Really how hard is it for them to just migrate our codes to an EU billing department? Then we can give them MORE cash! It's so convoluted and quite a headache. I have a soured impression of both companies involved here for their general unhelpfulness.

I just got an email saying i've now got "Store Credit" i've sent them a very colourful email back stating that is not what i'll be accepting.

Just got this:

"Arenanet will be going to court shortly for defamation. Our keys are from legal distributors and are not fraudulent. We will refund you and we will request our distributor to disable your game key so you cannot play the game further.

In the meantime we are contacting arenanet regarding the defamation.

Sorry for this confusion and we do urge you to take our word that these are not fraudulent keys. Arenanet are blaming us for their mistakes and they will definitely be paying for it.

Sorry that you got caught up in this mess. As we do care about our customers we will refund you in full and disable your game key, so you can buy directly from guild wars 2 if you wish..

We would like to inform you that all of our other games are not affected, it is only arenanet who decide to commit libel against us and accuse us of fraud ( which is of course untrue since we only source our keys by legal means). " - CJS support

I received my paypal refund

To be honest I already pointed out on the official Forums and on here that you can just set your country location to somewhere in the Pacific (e.g. British Virgin Islands) and your card will still clear through. I don't think the cash-store really demands the same address as your registered card address. I put in the British Virgin Islands for my country of residence during the Beta and it accepted me and gifted me my 2000 coins.

What's even more hilarious is that clearly the CJS guys watching this unfold on the official forum have, somewhere, read my post saying this. I've just checked my email and their latest response to me is that I can set my billing address to the British Virgin Islands and still use the gem-store fine. Ergo they have read my message (anonymous) on the GW2 forum and are now giving me back my own advice. ROFL :D

I don't feel they have any reason to help us out though. It would be nice, but they do not have to.

They listed Trusted sellers via their pre-order page incase you didn't want to order directly through them. I think they just want to enforce the regions decision, as if they let us do it then others will buy American copies as they are cheaper and state they did so believing they were EU keys.

This would then take any profit or part of the sales away from them, considering they have no monthly fee's they need to make what as much as they can from sales.

In the end we were the ones in the wrong buying from a site such as CJS, i only did so in the end as im currently not working and obviously the cheaper the better. I will be buying it directly through them now as to not cause any more problems.

Meh, I think ANet were asking a ridiculously high-price for a digital-only CD key and download link, so they priced me out of their willing market to be honest. CJS seemed to be one of the more reasonable sellers in terms of pricing. I know that doesn't excuse the whole business being a sham but, still, ANet's attitude towards customers is a little disconcerting. I don't really buy the "we price it high because there are no subscription costs!" model anymore, because well of course there are no subscription costs... GW2 still isn't really even a MMORPG.

LMAO the first 30 second disclaimer to that video sounds like every disclamatory post that every single poster here has had to make towards bhavv and co. as a preface to critique :p So funny. "Sorry we don't like this part... [note: I AM NOT JUST A WOW PLAYER...]"

It's not a high price to pay considering there is no subscription fee. I know you just said that isn't an excuse, but it is. It might not be a fully classed MMORPG due to the instancing etc but they still pay for the servers and need to recover costs from development aswell as make a profit.

It's like most subscription based MMO's you normally pay £30-40 then £8.99+ a month for however long they will pay. If you look at Arenanet they will only make money from their sales and the cash shop. They will also probably bring out expansions like they did with GW1 to make more money.

In the end i'd rather pay £50 and not worry about any more costs, than pay £30-40 and have £10 come out every month that im subscribed. It's a one off cost with no other costs needed.

Hmm what's the score with green man gaming, they're not listed as retailers/distributors either?
If its not on their list, they might consider the key unauthorized so be careful.

One thing i was thinking, with an unauthorized reseller that you get a refund from, how exactly can they cancel your cd-key?

I guess that's where we differ: I'd honestly rather pay £9 more p/m than have instanced content and the feeling that the game is cheaping out on infrastructure and support. I guess some people are willing to pay for the intangible benefits. Plus you can bet that ANet are going to make a killing with the micro-store - giving up a subscription model isn't some modest altruistic way of conceding any of their profit margins. It's still going to be obscene. They could basically spare the time and effort to transfer a few bloody accounts from one database to another.

I got a full refund from them now and they have stated they will be taking Arenanet to court for defamation.

It is heating up now!

Yeah i guess that is where we do differ. They were always going to do it this way, it's the way that worked for them in GW1, but that was instanced always outside of towns.

I know they are not doing the f2p model to help people out, it worked in GW1 and it will make them a lot of money again in GW2. I just don't think being a massived supporter of both games that the price they are charging is unreasonable.

In the end they could do that, but like i said if they made it public ie. on the forums what is to stop others doing the same to make the game cheaper and getting them switched over? It's a shame they couldn't do that obviously, as it would be easier for all of us but they have to stick to their rules of buy your own region.
