Guild Wars 2

I personally can't wait, I loved GW1 thought it was nice and now ready for GW2, I've read on their website some of the classes are the same but you get to choose from difference races which is pretty nifty

It doesn't have to be world wide. You could very easily have a Daoc like system of open world non-consensual pvp. Don't want to do it, then don't enter the "frontier". Simples.

Are you 1 of those dicks who plays these games solely to hastle low level players? Every MMO i've played that had open PvP was utter ****e and not even remotely fun to play. If GW2 has it i wouldn't go anywhere near it.

Telling people to stay away from frontier areas is just what the retards say. Most of the game takes place in those.

Open PVP makes a game.

There aren't many of us left, but UO showed us this.
In UO the only safe place was in town where the guards protected you.
Anyone starts attacking you simply called the guards and justice was swift.

Step outside of the boundries of the town and suddenly you were potentially a target to anyone.
What did this do to the game?
Well it actually made going out a dangerous affair.
It made you want to get into a group as attacking a group was a far more dangerous things.
It opened up new roles for players, those that would offer to guard other players.
People didn't "camp" in certain areas because at any minute a group of murderers could jump in and take all the loot you'd collected.

How did the system make it all fair?
By making a red character unable to go into town - shunning them from society.

Those of us who played UO know that having an actual "dangerous world" makes the game a lot more exciting.
In today's care bear lands such as the WOW games where you basically need to ask if it's ok if you can attack somebody is just plain boring.
There is no risk vs reward - you simply go to the most dangerous area and if you die it's a minor inconvenience while all your equipment is safe.
In the "olden UO days" death meant a walk back to town (or a healer) as a ghost.
The possibility of loss of equipment - it actually meant something to die.

There will be a lot of happy players out there is anyone could replicate the fun factor of UO into a modern game.
No-one has done it yet.

What are you on about? Just insulting people for the sake of it?

Low level players couldnt get hassled in Daoc

Why would most of the game take place in such areas?? Why couldnt it simply be 2 or 3 areas , for the last 10 character levels??

I guess its down to personal experiences, but the best 2 MMOs I ever played were UO and Daoc, both of which had non-consensual PvP.

what is? 1? one is so instanced its pretty much a coop game with matchmaking cities/outposts.

he was talking about 1 yes.

given the fact that in wow you really do hardly see anyone outside of the main outposts - the feature is hardly missed or a vital one in GW.

i would go as far as saying that GW does a good job of actually spreading people about in different towns etc. even today you can go to anyone and still see active people there.

Got to admit though it's no where near as fun as back in the day. When it was so busy you got pushed back to the 3rd or 4th server district because of over crowding, i loved those days!

And far more happy players in a game that doesn't have that factor.

Welcome to the world of casual gaming, and there are more of them than you.

I don't play a game for the danger, I play it to enjoy myself, and I do not enjoy PVP in anything other than FPS, and even then only barely.

Some people just prefer PVE, and they make up the majority.

I'm a casual gamer, but I enjoy PvP :)

Do you do any PvP at all? Battlegrounds or Arenas etc? Or are you strictly PvE in MMOs? I have a couple of friends who are strictly PvE in MMOs. I generally like PvP or a mix of PvP and PvE, though I am strictly PvE in LoTRO.

Ok but.....american :( :p

Nah, it's all good. No one plays euro.. its full of French and Germans.. server response isn't an issue to Am so everyone just uses them. Still a huge following, all completing their HoM.

GW2 looks fantastic. It's got to come out this year.

people of this opinions cant have played a proper mmo apart from maybe on a trial.

you might hardly ever see anyone in some areas but its the different between a single player game with lobbies disguised as cities and a massively multiplayer game.

in most mmos you can happily be questing or whatever find someone doing the same as you and group up , its great fun and a good way to make friends.

in guild wars your basicly left to doing missions and getting a group for them once its done everyone goes there own and way and your on to the next mission with a completly new random group.

theres no sense of community at all and to a lot of us it gets very boring fast.

I enjoy PvP when i have the option to go play it not when i have it forced down my throat. If the danger of going out into the wilderness is some jackass who wants to grief low levels then the game has failed.

If you feel its the opposite go play a game that contains it not hope it turns up in this IP. They've already changed so much from GW1 it doesn't seem to contain anything that made it good, open PvP would be the final nail in its coffin from my point of view.

well first i have played gw, factions to completion and half of nightfall.
Aion played for around 3months both in beta and endgame.
i have also played wow with 2 chars up to BC 66. so i have had a lot of experience with mmo's making your claim 'that we all must be stupid' ridiculous.

not sure what games your referring to exactly but i feel your wrong. even in wow if your questing you hardly bump into anyone and then when you do there is noway in hell you would team up and quest together!

the only mmo i have ever played that even came close to what your discribing is Aion and even then thats only been a few times in lower level areas.
so define 'most mmos' because to me you just sound like someone that has a chip on the shoulder for the GW brand.

fair enough if it doesnt suit your style of play whatever that may be ... but to turn around and claim its not an MMO etc etc is a bit immature.

how much of GW have you actually played btw? have you even played it?
