Guild Wars 2

SWTOR had a lot of excitement around it, then it came out and started to collapse after roughly a month, and it's still struggling badly now.
To be fair only the star wars fans were excited, it always looked like a terrible game from the first showing :p

It wasn't just Star Wars fans, I know loads of people who like Star Wars (most people do really) but they aren't what I'd call fans, and they were all looking forward to it.

I always thought it looked reasonably good, but had a feeling it would come up short and it did; big time.

The only money abusing I've possibly seen in the betas is fast traveling, I think it costs too much. Then again Ive only seen all the starter areas. Is it still expensive at level 30?

I actually thought it was too cheap at low levels, barely noticed the cost whilst leveling 1-15 and I was using it constantly.

I'm just hoping this game is good, or at least as good as it could be.

I'm just a little worried that with it being f2p it won't get the support it needs and wont be as good as it could (cue an irate bhaav rant of how f2p rules :p)

I wont be playing until a week after launch due to my wedding but looking forward to getting into it and seeing how it goes!

Fingers crossed!

Like Guild wars 1 which was supported for years with lots of patches and expansion packs?

GW1 is still receiving offical patches and support to this very day.

What will happy to GW1's servers when GW2 launches.... do you think over time they will start shutting them down untill eventually there wont be any official servers to play on?

I mean they cant keep them up for every.

Really don't think I like this, much prefer Diablo 3. Going to have to try and find someone to buy my key/account for like £30 I guess when it launches. Not sure why I can't get on with it, found it a bit hard to understand but then Im new to PC games like this :)

It's nothing like Diablo 3, so why are you comparing them?

I remember them clearly stating Guild Wars will remain open for a long time so people can still do the HoM achievements.

It will probably be in a similar vein to guild wars 1, rolling out expansion packs each year and maybe an occasional content update (e.g. Sorrows Furnace / Domain of Anguish)

Guessing each expansion will add 6-8 new zones. Skill updates will be interesting - I wonder if expansions will add new weapon sets.

YEs but theres a world of difference between 1 and 2.

1 was a glorified rpg with an online element (I'm not hating on that, but it is true) whereas 2 they are offering a fully fledged MMO which will take a lot more input and management day to day than 1 did. 1 was horrific customer support and I experienced this on a few occasions, not a massive problem when its a solo game but if there are vast issues hitting the game and they have poor support they wont be able to take the amcount of customer interaction they are receiving.

I really hope this game is fantastic and lives up to all the hype (my own and everyone elses) but after every trashy MMO that has been released these last few years and they all hype themself well I am going in a lot more cynical this time :p

Sorry to clarify I mean support as in day to day player support, as above GW1 support was horrible and with the amount of extra players this will (probably) have and with it being a full fledged MMO there are a lot more areas which could require constant management and support.

GW1 was always great with expansions etc and that was one thing I was really impressed by GW1. Arenanet were really good with that.

I agree, it's concerning. I cant even change the email my guild wars account is attached to, the option to has been down for months.

I mean there are other concerns - pve balance & longevity, pvp balance, the effect gems->gold has on the ingame economy and a bunch more that we'll just have to wait and see about.

Really hope I don' get keylogged or my details phished though, no idea what the policy will be on restoring accounts.

This concerns me to, but we will just have to wait and see. I hope it does get similar support to what Blizzard have given WoW over the years.

That happened to two of my mates in GW1 and anet just said, in essence "tough luck start again"

They were not too fussed and did but in a full MMO if you work up to cap or get good gear or a rare title etc etc and you get hacked and they just say "oh we'll start again" I would be gutted/raging and I don't think I would be the only one.

My problem with GW1 was passwords, the daft password system in the first place but once it took them a week and another time 10 days to restore a password  again I wasn't that fussed in GW but in a full MMO I would be pretty hacked off.

Essentially my concern boils down to that I hope they don't use the f2p model as an excuse to fob people off again with bad customer service.

It's been a FACT that in GW1 (and by extension GW2, cos they developed the tools for GW2 and ported them to GW1), has allowed account based rollbacks for nearly a YEAR.

There are certain rules to get the rollback performed, but if you've genuinely been had, they'll be fine

The above will also be the case for GW2.

Well it is a F2P game, they are providing you the services of a P2P Fully fledged MMO with no monthly fee and no content gating in a cash shop, are you really expecting parity in terms of time to answer a ticket e.t.c. with a game charging you a fee? I'm not. Just take what you can get for free and be happy it's a heck of a lot more than the rest of the industry's giving away for free.

"If you download a third-party program and find your account was compromised — through a keylogger, through a hack, through a Trojan — you will most likely be ineligible for our Account Restoration Service."

:S?

Edit - and not to be pedantic, but it isnt F2P, it's subscriptionless.

Wouldn't even stuff like VLC, XBMC and Firefox be classed as third party?
