Guild Wars 2

The Sylvari starter zone is full of posh accents and rather on the technicolour side. Very nice, but not my race of choice I think.

Seems to be running okay on my snail like connection.

Has anyone changed their mind on rolling your main? I've gone off elementalist in favor of a warrior. Finding the melee in gw2 really satisfying.

I quite like my elementalist (although I Hate asura, the only thing that makes up for it is Felicia Days voice acting, but that doesn't outweigh how much I dislike the race). So far for me I think I'm undecided between elementalist and warrior.

Big battles in WvW lags just like Wintergrasp did in WoW before they nerfed the numbers, everything else seems fine though.

Spent 3 hours in WvW defending a keep with my warrior. Defend, rally and chase off, repeated to infinity. Then I got a bit cocky and got nailed by the next zerg and faced the ignominy of being 'tea-bagged' by some weird gnome like thing . :D At this point I felt the need to log out and reflected that I rather fancy myself as a melee class in PvP, which is a first.

I don't expect combat of that scale to be smooth, but it wasn't laggy enough to feel that my fate was out of my hands.

I do hope they erase the servers again after this weekend. I want my name back after some cheeky so and so stole it.

Great game.

Played for about 3 hours solid and just wow!

I played for an hour and was a bit "meh" on engineer and wasn't enjoying myself. Tried Mesmer and was even more "meh" and was starting to think maybe the game isn't for me. Tried elementalist and it all just opened up and I'm having a great time.

I still don't think the world is even a little bit as reactive as they make it out to be, most events are one stage and rarely change anything. That and the fact it is so stupidly simple to play because of scaling you can spam your way through anything (I don't and try and make it enjoyable for myself, but I could.)

But despite them complaints I like how you can just run from area to area and pick up a quest and then just run with it and see what happens.

When, or how, are you able to switch between weapons quickly or can you only do it out of combat?

Only tried WvW a little and just ended up bored out my skull with all the running around involved trying to find a fight :p Faster movement or something else would be nice because I was just kept getting bored and ended up going back to the pve.

ALl in all though, amazing!

ohohohohoho I doubted the game first and second betas but have just been playing nearly 24 hours solid on the Sylvari and have 100%ed the first couple of areas. This game is AMAZING! and so addictive I love the jumping puzzles and exploring :)

Weapon switching comes in at lvl 7 I think (or it was in the beta I played, not had a chance to play this one as I'm away with the family) but once weapon switching kicks in the game changes so much. I know as mesmer I was able to do so much more when I could switch weapon and i t made the whole game a lot more enjoyable!

Game really comes into its own after the first few zones though. Beginning zones are basic and don't have as many dynamic events and such.

Keep in mind not all classes get weapon switching. Engineers don't as they have access to their packs which opens up tons more skills, and elementalists have 4 sets of elemental skills per weapon, so they have more skills available even without weapon switching.

Well i just got done playing for the first time. I started at 4 today so that's a solid 8 hours :) I started off with a Sylvari elementalist and hated it, moved on to Asura engineer and it was even worse. I finally settled on a Norn Warrior for tonight ... wow! melee is so satisfying in this game. I still have more classes to go through tomorrow but swinging a big sword around is going to be hard to beat.

One thing I am really confused about is loot ... all I was getting was coin and some karma from doing those heart quests. When I was looting the bodies they were only giving mats or trash. Does this game work using karma as loot so you can then buy what you want from the karma vendors (not sure on the name) or have I been doing it wrong

Anyway, melee so far kicks ass for me.

I've been checking this guide to know with Skill are better for my MESMER xDD

I don't know yet with which weapon I'll be playing in the future, I'll be doing just PVP what would you say please...

Just a little bit of help for this big noob xD

PLEASE xD

I play Scepter-Pistol / Staff.

The scepter is awesome for building up illusions quickly, the confusion beam is also a fair whack of burst damage when combined with the phantasm pistol dude... then the ult for the pistol is sheer win -- those WvW moments where you have routed them and they're bailing, use that, will daze/stun 1-2 targets, you then get the great joy of seeing them get minced. This also combines very well with the condition damage signet, whilst the condition damage is of no great benefit for the most part (partly useful for the staff) the active of it is another stun, giving you 2 easily used stuns in your arsenal as well as being able to sacrifice illusions to stun as well -- I have never lost a 1v1 ever due to this combination for the sheer fact you can stunlock any other class to death.

The staff is the main weapon of this, you really only swap to scepter-pistol to use the stun or to build illusions / get your pistol phantasm out, then you swap straight back. Staffs auto attack is an aoe that buffs / debuffs, you have access to two very quick illusions, one is a blink backwards as well which is <3. Then you have the Chaos aura thing that is a pretty nice aoe, stacks conditions, can fear etc -- can also be used when running away as it also buffs allies inside and one of those buffs can be run speed.
