Guild Wars 2

I'm just going with the bog standard. Don't care about some stupid in game pet that every man and his wife will have. Just going for beta access and head start.

Jeez, the more I think about that digital deluxe edition, the less I want it. A few one-shot items that will mean nothing in the long run. A companion that does nothing except follow you around. An instant banker for...five days?! A piece of jewellery with low stat boosts that will no doubt be superfluous when you acquire some gear. And an elite that may (or may not) be useless compared to your other elites. And no soundtrack FFS!

Of course, being "digital" only also means that wherever you can buy it - Steam, Gamersgate etc - it will be staggeringly expensive for weeks and weeks after release.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think I'll go for the bog-standard edition. Preferably retail from an e-tailer.

Yeah i think ill go with bog standard now after thinking about it.

Minimum specs.

  • Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better
  • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 or better
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI Radeon™ X1800, Intel HD 3000 or better (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
  • 25 GB available HDD space
  • Broadband Internet connection
  • Keyboard and mouse

25GB install, sounds like it's going to be a huge game.

I hope those min specs are realistic. I just fractionally meet the SWTOR min requirements and that is unplayable in ilum (although to be fair even people with better PCs are just as unplayable some times). I expect all elements of a game to be playable with the stated min requirements, even if that means putting everything on the lowest settings.

Guild Wars used to be kind to low spec hardware, but GW2 looks far more demanding.

along the lines of what? the previous ce's had about the same (or less) crap in.

Previous CEs had far less crap in them.
Previous CEs were around 30% of this price(it not less lol)
None of them included a massive hunk of plastic tat :p

Well I say none of em but that headset that gaem with GW1 was pretty pants lol uncomfortable as **** too.

Saying that it was a £35 CE
I paid £19.00 for the factions CE
and I think £12.99 for the nightfall CE

Had preorder codes from all too just to fnish them off nicely.
It's a huge shame that having all the previous CE's doesnt add anything to GW2.

Compare that to the £130 monstrosity we have here mate its a fair difference lol

Theyve just gone the EA way of bundling whatever they can get some chinese OEM factory to mass produce for next to nowt.

Look at recent CE's Star Wars, Skyrim, Gears of War 3 all around £150 on release all fdown to ~£50 within a few months

No thankyou tbqfh

There will be no CE availalbe after release.
That is why they are doing pre-purchase to reserve your copy of the CE.
They are using the pre-purchases to get the number of CE they need to mass product. After that, no more will be made or sold.
So its going to be far different :)

Just like the preorder on the SWTOR CE? with most stores saying none available no more being made, yet more popped up? And what actually seemed to be the rare
Skyrim CE ... 39.99 recently lol

Extra £100 or so on top of standard edition, nah thanks

Where is Skyrim been 40 recently?

Game, was 59.99 just after xmas too
Gears of war Epic edition has steadily dropped since release also.
Driver CE available for ~£20 recently too altho that didnt start at £100+

The rate these CE's drop I won't be going for anything anytime soon unless it's somethign stupid special, the publichsers have become too accsustomed to includign extra random tat and whacking on huge amounts on the price :(

^ The CE will not be sold or even made anymore after launch.
That is what the pre-purchase is for on the 10th. They will use it to figure out how many CE to mass produce.

Do you actually have any proof as to where they said no more will be sold or made? Lots of games have had a CE that people assumed was the same (swtor to name a recent one) but that is still being sold, and for MUCH cheaper than release price. So do you have anything to back it up that after release you can't get one, or is that just your assumption?

I'm with Dist and Divine Wind on this one. Over the years I have seen claims of "strictly limited edition" dozens of times only to see them still available months after release. ANet may be sincere, but that doesn't mean anything. I see no reason to believe either way, really - only time will tell.

Also, wouldn't it make sense for a game like GW2 which doesn't rely on subscriptions to make money to continue to sell higher priced versions of the game?

They will take the preorder and use the cash they've got to make as many as possible most probably, for that £130 your probably looking at £10-15 manufacturing/packaging costs, plus the original cost of the game. That £130 will probably make a fair few CE's so for each one they have preordered lets say they can manufacture 8 or so. Every one aint gonna be preordered.

They do however look to be running out of high street stores to put them in ;)

Unless they say proper LIMITED edition of 10000 or so properly numbered then you can assume they can just reprint them when they feel like it.

The only CE they've made that seems to have been anywhere near limited was the original GW, black box necro on the front. The others are still available today to buy, I'm pretty sure at the time they were touted as super mega limited edition. Christ the CE of nightfall was £7.50 at one point I'm sure.

CoH/CoV CE saw them for £4.99 in HMV
Did'nt NC Do Tabula Rasa too? Oh wait that's CE is like a fiver now too ;)

Face it they've gone the EA way of including random Tat people don't want and charging the Earth, purely because of how popular they see the game being. Don't get me wrong a valid business approach but yer still gonna get fools that pay it then feel a tad upset when the CE's turn up for next to nowt. Look at the Terra CE, £39.99 and doesn't have a huge statue.

Artbook, Nice quality map, steel box would be me happy and I'd happily pay £40-50 if it also included something along the lines of the preorder bonuses you got with the previous GW releases

SWTOR, Skyrim, Gears 3 Epic Edition CE's were in ridiculously sized boxed with huge statues that will maybe get 10mins of attention. All of then have been 49.99 and lower since release.

I'm with the sensible people on this, Maybe Digi deluxe or just a standard tbh

You're talking EA with quite a specific market strategy (not unlike Activision). I'm not saying A.net will be any different, but they can be.

I'm rather disappointed with the prices tbh. Rumours of £50 for the basic game :(

I paid £17.99 for GW1 on launch!

Now I wasn't expecting GW2 to be that price, but I was expecting the normal £29.99 price tag.

There's no way the base game will be £50, not from any of the decent online shops anyway. I'm expecting to pay in the region of £30-£35 for it on release.

£50 for basic, bleugh lol

I think I paid 35.99 or 37.99 for the original from simplygames.. the CE!
Will just shop around but even 34.99 is pushing it tbh
