Guild Wars 2

The hype and anticipation around this title means that for the first month or so they can charge pretty much what they like. Having no sub fee's probably also helps push the initial purchase price up. Does anyone know if they're introducing micro transactions into GW2? Or is it just paid expansions?

I'm rather disappointed with the prices tbh. Rumours of £50 for the basic game :(

I paid £17.99 for GW1 on launch!

Now I wasn't expecting GW2 to be that price, but I was expecting the normal £29.99 price tag.

I actually wouldnt be surprised to be honest (though is that £50 for the deluxe standard version, rather than the standard standard version?) , but I wouldnt be surprised if GW2 does have a higher buy price than usual. Given that they have been touting how GW2 is a fully fledged MMO, whereas GW1 wasnt, I wouldnt be surprised if it has a higher buy price to make up for not having a subscription. I'm fine with that to be honest, I'm happy to pay a £50 outlay and have no subscription fee than pay £30 for the box, then £9 every month. (although I have no issues with paying a sub either tbh)

This was one of the reason myself and a few friends played through gw1 and the expansions was because they were a reasonable price.

I'd guess the basic price is going to be £40-50 because they know they can get it due to the high RRP on games nowadays and with the demand/interest in GW2 they know people will pay it.

They will milk it for what they can in the early stages, most dev's nowadays wouldn't pass at the chance for a little extra monies!

£50 for starter box? :o

But I would still rather pay that initial sum instead of paying £8.99 for months on end which is worse for the consumer.

is there any release info yet that is'nt rumors? Ive heard April and September but watching the videos on youtube is making me have withdrawals, from a game Ive never played before....

Gah! £130 just because it has a stupid ****ing 10-inch model included?! Can't they do one without the model? Not sure I want to buy it now; might just go for the digital deluxe even though the deluxe rewards are a bit crap.

What a disappointment. :(

Where are you reading £130?

The presence or absence of subscription fees doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to the retailers though, will it? I wouldn't be surprised if Steam charge somewhere close to £50 for the standard edition mind, and god knows what for the "digital" deluxe edition. But I'm fairly confident I won't have to pay more than £35 for the bog-standard box from, say, Amazon on release. If I'm wrong, feel free to link back to this post in a couple of months and laugh at me. :p

Amazon.de has started taking pre-orders at 49 Euro's for the basic pack, which as direct conversion is about £41.

Amazon.com has it up for $59.99 which is about £39.

So I'd guess the min you're looking to get it for from retail is about £40 if those prices are to be believed.

And I'd guess ANet will sell it for £50 or so direct to get access to the 3 day head start and what not.

While I'm sure shopping around will probably net you the starter box for £35 or so, I'm perfectly happy paying the full £50 or so considering your getting a subscription free MMO it seems like great value for money compared to the likes of WoW/SWToR.

Do you actually have any proof as to where they said no more will be sold or made? Lots of games have had a CE that people assumed was the same (swtor to name a recent one) but that is still being sold, and for MUCH cheaper than release price. So do you have anything to back it up that after release you can't get one, or is that just your assumption?

This with out a doubt.

I'm planning on the digital deluxe version. I would be interested though if this will be available via Steam. I would love to have GW in my Steam client.

It is possible. After all they seem to be hitting home the whole Digital thing with 2 editions and they already have the original on Steam.

I'll probably get the DDE and see how it goes in the beta weekends.
