Guild Wars 2

It's really good, spent all evening doing new stuff. You can get a couple of new back items which are very cool looking.

They've actually made Southsun fun and worth visiting now. Lots of new events, new areas, vets and champs actually have guaranteed drops, fun achievements, funny NPC dialogue, great reward items.

Really enjoyed running around the island with renewed purpose last night. Looking forward to the next part on the 28th:

I did like the Southsun stuff.

My only gripe is it hasn't got a completion chain that goes toward world. I liked the redesign and also remembered how much I hate the Karka vets :p

It's obviously going to have a dungeon at the end, rather looking forward to it!

Finished Southsun first round. Was good fun :)

Question, I made a killing off mat collection. Does mat reset go on account or character? So if I find all the orac on one toon can I log back on another and wil it be in the same place to collect?

Made about 10g in a few days.

Nice. I may jump back on this game soon

That's part of the problem HeX - GW2 became a chore to play as there was not delight in simply coming into a zone and finding a dragon when you went to a location, everyone is spamming times, standing about waiting - where's the fun in that?

Honestly, I don't use it myself, I don't care if I don't get my daily guaranteed rare. I go and do what I want to do. If I happen to be in a zone when an event starts up I'll participate, but I don't plan my evening around what events are occurring when.

It's just a useful tool to check when you first log in to see if there is a world event happening soon before you start doing whatever. If I log in and see Behemoth is up in 2mins I'll probably nip over to try my hand at getting a good drop, then I'll be off to go play how I want.

Others in my guild love to event hop and are constantly jumping about the world to make sure they hit all of the guaranteed events because that's what they enjoy.

Each to their own. *shrug*

Where's the fun in grinding anything in any mmo? You can apply that argument to any endgame task in any mmo around so its a pointless stick to beat the game with.

Personally I event hop when I need to rustle up some gold. Apart from that I just play the world and enjoy myself, levelling a guardian at the mo and love wondering through the world and seeing what comes up.

You can event hop, play dungeons, legendary farm, alt level, wvw, orgsnised pvp, crafting and other things. Plenty of variety.

Survivability of the Guardian is nice compared to my usual squishy classes, standing toe to toe with the right timed dodges and you can go far.

I didn't mention grind at all, not sure why you've gone on that tangent. My point was and still is that the surprise has gone from many of the dynamic events as they're hardly dynamic at all, the encounters themselves barely vary, if ever and many of the major ones are only entertaining once, perhaps twice until you realise just how scripted they are.

They have a real chance with those events to make them really challenging and dynamic, but didn't.

I really enjoy the game, but the lack of surprise has killed it off. It's partly the community though - I'd rather not have a regional chat etc which is why I tended to turn it off, but why not move the encounters around more, add in new mobs and hell - actually wipe players out doing the dragon encounters.

Scripted dragon encounters in Dark Age of Camelot were more challenging and that game is well over 10 years old.

I do think they need more events as opposed to more regular event respawns. It is something they have indicated they are looking at (I'm willing to take their word as they have tended to do what they say) but in general I do agree with your point. I mistook slightly what you said originally, the challenge element is a tough one. Too hard and it becomes impossible with the group setup they have but I agree it needs to be tougher. They have made the events more challenging recently but they still haven't got the right balance, again it's something they said they will address and I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt. I think the lack of variability is partly a challenge issue, as it is too easy at the mo a lot if events are stuck at one end of the chain.

It's far from perfect but its a huge step in the right direction for the genre.

The only point I would disagree on is the community. I genuinely find it the best community post vanilla/tbc wow for me personally. You almost always get help and people willing to chip in with things thanks to how the game is set up with no mob tagging etc.

Still disappointed in GW2 although I play it daily. Other than doing the daily, monthly and odd event there is little to keep people busy. Still hoping to see a FoW/UW type zone in the future.

Arah is my favourite dungeon in the whole game.

However, Arah (bar Path 3) is no harder than any other dungeon, and only Simin in P3 makes it slightly harder. The reason I like Arah is because it's the best put together dungeon in the game, the mechanics in Arah surpass every other by a large margin, and the visual look of the place is amazing. It often feels like Arah was the dungeon they made first, and put a ton of effort into it, and then they ran out of time for the other dungeons and just had to put them together quickly by comparison.

However it's not FoW/UW level. It's no where near as big, and there is no sense of being in danger, as unlike FoW/UW if your party wipes you can just respawn at the last WP.

GW2 does need some high end, bigger party, elite content, and I look forward to the day it's added. I have great memories of doing guild runs through FoW, UW, The Deep, Urgoz, DoA, etc in GW1.

But saying that, we still find plenty to do in the game each evening. And tonight the next part of the 'Living Story' starts, so we're looking forward to doing that :)

I'm sure you've told me before but what server/guild you in?

I've got my Guardidn up to 42, Ranger to 48 as well as keeping up with my gold saving mission (for no reason other than I want a load)

On to 50g now and still to decide what class to finish, started an Ele too who is slowly creeping up the levels :D

I guess you mean Southsun Cove rather than Living Story?

I've done Arah but as HeX said, its not the same. The rewards alone mean people don't bother with the dungeon. As with all exp paths the easiest is grinded just for the tokens.

FoW rewarded Obsidian Shards. As much as they were a reward though we did FoW just for the fun of it. Again as said before, one wipe was game over.
