Guild Wars 2

Well, after some well timed selling of Frost dyes on the TP I'm going to hit the 300g mark this week, provided I get the 70g or so for the Deep Galcial Sky dye I'm going to flog later. I'll be about half way to enough money to buying a Legendary precursor, assuming I don't get tempted by anything else of course...I want Bolt but 100 charged lodestones as well at 3.5g each!!?? What a killer. :(

I'm sure you've told me before but what server/guild you in?

Gandara

Army of Masks [AoM]

I guess you mean Southsun Cove rather than Living Story?.

Indeed Southsun, it's all part of the living story, just this current arc is in Southsun.

Dragon Festival next :D

Nice work on the dyes, wishing I'd snapped some up when they were cheap now. I bought a load on day one for like 9-12g each, they are worth between 35-70g now... unfortunately I used them all on my various characters :o so still skint :D

A guildy of mine has invested in Mini Farens! He's got half his storage full of speedo wearing Lords in the hopes they'll shoot up in value after Southsun is finished.

I finished off getting all my Mystic Clovers the other day, so that used up most of my Ecto reserves. Working on T6 materials now. Not that I actually want any of the current Legendaries, I'm just getting the stuff that's generic for now so I'm ready when one comes out that I simply must have :p

What you are saying about the Farens. My bro in law speculated on the ghostly shield things when they were around 10g each. He's got around 20 or so in the bank and they are selling around 85g at the mo iirc.

The tool has stopped playing though at the mo and he won't listen to me, log in, flog them and drop me some gold the git :p

Failed at saving up for my Legendary again last night :D

Had 150g in the bank, blew it all on Firebringer for my Guardian, and the Consortium Harvesting Sickle for my main... oops :o

Skint again now!

But my Guardian now looks superb ^_^

Well I now own guild wars 2. Won't be able to install it until weekend I expect. Looking forward to making a start! Been wanting it since release.

Now which one of you guys are gonna volunteer to be my mentor hehe

I'll give you a hand mate, I play some strange times with the bairn but I'll give you a hand.

Try and drag Vince back in too!

Never use sword with my guardian. Standard hammer and staff Ah build here. I haven't moved from it though as it worked well for dungeons. Care to share why a sword is viable?

TBH all Guardian weapons are good. You can pretty much go for whatever you want. I've got a full set of exotic weapons in my inventory at all times and I just switch to whatever I fancy doing.

Running a AH build you aren't really specialised into any particular weapon set, so you can just switch up as needed.

I tend to avoid Greatswords because they are soooo cliché! Everyone and their mother runs greatswords because BIG SWORD!

Hammer is great fun on Guardian, I tend to use that a lot too. I have a Magmaton for such situations ;) Hammer is worth using just for Skill 4 (Banish), there's nothing more hillarious than launching your enemy half way across the map with a huge hammer uppercut :D Plus the skill 2 blast finisher is great for spamming retaliation on your team.

Mace + Shield has epic tanking ability, with fast refresh blocks, the heal on auto attack 3, extra toughness from shield, protection, and the shield bubble/heal. Good for going toe to toe with tough enemies and keeping your team up.

Scepter has suprisingly good DPS for a ranged weapon, if you can land your hits it's actually the highest dps ranged weapon in the game (using auto attack and skill 2 smite), it's just let down by the slow projectile speed that's easy to dodge. But for PvE when enemies tend to stay still it's a good choice.

Staff is a super support weapon, but I find it better for WvW, party speed buffs, line of warding, and party wide might (which doubles as a big heal when running AH) works a treat.

Sword is the highest dps weapon available to Guardian, it's got fast attacks, and great mobility (skill 2 teleport/blind) and works well in conjunction with Blind Exposure (3 stacks of vulnerability on blind). Sword 3 lets you do a bit of damage at range before teleporting back into the fight.

Torch is great fun, can't beat running around breathing fire on stuff and setting yourself on fire :D

I tend to run a 0/20/30/20/0 build for Sword/Torch.

Something like this Stabby Stabby Burny Blindy Build

gw203.jpg

It's a high crit AH sword build that is based around keeping enemies on fire and blinded, while giving good support to the team.

Start off by using sword skill 2 to teleport to target causing blind and 3 stacks of vuln, sword auto attack has a good chance of landing crits which give you and your team stacks of might, as soon as blind wears off your target hit it with Virtue of Justice for a 5s burn, blind, and 3 more stacks of vuln. Dodge roll out to heal yourself and close by team mates, hit skill 3 to do a short reflect and deal some ranged damage, teleport back into the fight to give the enemy blind and 3 more stacks of vuln. Use torch skill 4 to keep the enemy burning between skill and virtue rotations, and skill 5 to purge conditions from the team (when needed when shouts are on cooldown).

That's just how I play it anyway. We have 2 other Guardian players on our team, so I tried to make mine as different to their play style as possible (within reason, i'm still running AH and some shouts). One uses Greatsword for the pull skill, retaliation and leap. The other plays a ranged pure support guardian running Scepter/Shield + Staff with high healing power dropping lots of party boons and boosting might stacks.

Did the Karka Queen last night, we had the entire map split into 4 teams holding each town for about 40mins before we got her to pop.

Then all hell broke loose as every single person descended on the Queen. My FPS dropped through the floor, there were that many particle effects flying all over :D As the battle went on the server began to crumble until all sound effects and music cut out (did the same for everyone in the fight!).

But we were victorious, finished her off with 45 seconds to spare :D

It's good to have a world boss where there is a chance of dying. There were corpses all over the place. Unlike the dragon events which you can pretty much AFK.

ArenaNet has announced the next Guild Wars 2 content update. Called "Sky Pirates of Tyria", the new content will bring more additions to the Living Story, a new dungeon, new quests, and the news that custom arenas and spectator mode will be entering the live game. Sky Pirates of Tyria is expected to go live on June 25th.

Details of the update include:

New Story Dungeon: Aetherblade Retreat – Find the hidden entrance to the Aetherblade base and take the fight to the pirates. It’ll take skill, courage, and no small measure of agility to battle through to the Aetherblade Captain and First Mate.

Sea of Sorrows Scavenger Hunt – In this new, permanent content, players search for clues to the locations of 12 plaques that have been set up to honor the history of the city and its founder, in the novel Sea of Sorrows by our very own Ree Soesbee, narrative designer, ArenaNet, hitting store shelves and Amazon on Tuesday, June 25.

New Rewards – A variety of new rewards are available, including Aetherblade caches, a First Mate Horrik miniature companion, a stylish monocle and more.

Skill and Trait Balance Update – The largest balance patch ever is being introduced in this build, which includes significant updates to traits and skills to introduce more viable build diversity. Every profession trait line is seeing changes. Updates also have been made to some less popular skills to improve their effectiveness.

Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode leaves Beta – Custom PvP arenas allow players to host private matches, and customize their map settings. This feature is leaving beta, which means that Custom Arena Starter Kits will be available for anyone to purchase in the Gem Store. Spectator Mode also is officially out of beta. Together, these two features allow for practice, competitive play and tournaments.

Mortar Mastery Joins the Growing List of World vs. World Abilities – Players can increase their mortar effectiveness by training in Mortar Mastery. Improvements in this line include increasing mortar blast radius, beefing up on damage, reducing skill recharge, and even adding a new skill, Mortar Barrage.
