Guild Wars 2

Sense of entitlement, it's a gamer's right!

Besides, based on the results of this I reckon the end of May beta weekend (there's bound to be one) should go a lot more smoothly.

All of this and all you saved was like a fiver? :p

I had more of an issue of putting down £50 for a game rather than whether I could afford 50 - which I can :)

I had an option to go amazon or Cjs, they were the same price but amazon the risk was itbwuldn't arrive on time. I didn't think that Cjs would sell keys they never had!

Re Cjs, the refunds came quick for me so whilst the key to account is a problem how Cjs have resolved the issue had been fine for me. Bearing in mind I'm still liaising with anet about the actual key on account problem, their support is somewhat lacking at the moment from my experience. On a positive I can now sit back and wait for full release, I liked what I saw but no real urge todo any more of these marketting events.

I probably wouldn't do Cjs again simply because of the issue regarding actually having keys to sell

Yeah, this is quite silly.

Anyone who's pre-purchased the game gets free access to the beta. We've not payed for it nor have any reason why we should get it. Why people think they should have full access to a complete, bugless game is beyond me. If the game were at that stage, it'd be released instead of being in beta.

I'd much rather they do it this way than the alternatives. This way there'll be a definitive point when they say "ok, the game is ready" and we can judge it properly from that point. The alternatives are they release the game before it's ready or they don't give people beta access so it can't be stress tested easily and there's less people bug spotting.

It's silly to think that most people that play the beta probably don't give feedback on the game (the whole point of beta) and think they have a right to whine about something they got free.

Can't really imagine why people would be interested or excited to play a one-day stress test. Yes, let's level a character to level 5 on a laggy and unplayable server. I think I'll just wait for the game's full release before hopping onto any other gameplay events... I saw enough in the first open weekend to know they have some work to do before release.

You seemed to have missed the point of it being a stress test, they want people to log on so they can stress their servers to find any issues that may arise (as i'm sure your aware). If it helps them in releasing a better working game then i'm all for helping wherever possible!

Even if it means just logging my character in and leaving him standing still, i'll do it to help them test!

+1 well said mate

People seem to still be confused, as they always are.

Some people now seem to think that a beta/stress test equals game demo. It does not. It never has, and it likely never will.

Unfortunately the mistake is the companies forcing people to pre-order so they can get in on these tests, confusing people and causing them to expect a demo.

Ultimately though, people can't complain. It's not ArenaNet's fault you don't understand what a beta/stress test is.

exactly.

I agree with everything you've said except this. The cause for people's confusion is also the industry's own doing as well as the consumer's. My mind is blank but I'm sure there have been betas which really weren't, they were marketing exercises to measure interest pre-launch and drive pre-orders. You can spot them quite easily because there is no iterative approach and very little time between beta and launch.

GW2's last beta event had log-in issues. It's logical to assume they have made changes to the infrastructure and want to test that aspect before the next proper weekend event. Their approach shows that this is testing which is actually driving development.

To be fair though, Arenanet themselves were one of the first companies to warp the concept of a beta. I seem to remember they were one of the first companies to do 'beta weekends' with GW1. They game was incredibly slick even then, and I remember thinking that this wasn't testing, it was advertising.

lol sometimes i wonder if its a GW1 thread too :D

Yup.
Well seeing as quite a lot of this threads posters went with CJS, people are just sharing their experiences.

It's not as bad as multiple people bickering and making the thread unbearable for everyone else or turning it into a guild recruitment thread.
Agree with the bickering, as to recruitment, only ever seen a few on here, maybe twice from me, reason being most peeps from here are pretty mature and fit our guild pretty well.

The cjs whine feast has kidnapped the thread, if it's such a big issue then a new thread should be started:) .....my 2.5 cents worth!

I don't think it's kidnapped the thread to be fair, people have been refunded now just the issue of getting the keys taken off the account.

Now that one person has got it done, everyone else should be able to and that'll be the end of that.

although there is no official release date, from the beta testing feedback and experience there is still a lot of stuff that needs amending, i expected a july release...but is a late 2012 release more realistic?

*sigh*

I seriously don't get the whole "before release a lot of stuff needs amending" comments.

Maybe your expectations are just to high, because from playing the Beta myself there were a few niggles which were to be expected. I'd say one big problem being performance issues but otherwise i didn't see to much wrong with it at all.

It's been mentioned to much in here, it's either expectations being to high or wanting it to be more like certain other games which to be honest it probably will not ever do.

I'd say it will be July at the absolute earliest. There's a rather big expansion for another MMO due out later this year and they will want to keep it away from that if possible in order to attract as many people from the other game as they can. If those people have something large to focus on they may be less inclined to try GW2.

On the flip side of that, you could say they want to get GW2 out to try and put people off the expansion for the other game, but people will generally always go with the familiar if they are forced to choose.

Have there been any hints of a release date, an original target date perhaps?
