Guild Wars 2

I don't think they have given any clue to a date at all, just that it'll be out sometime in 2012.

I'd say around August to be honest as anything later will run in with the WoW expansion which they will not want to do.

To be fair though, Arenanet themselves were one of the first companies to warp the concept of a beta. I seem to remember they were one of the first companies to do 'beta weekends' with GW1. They game was incredibly slick even then, and I remember thinking that this wasn't testing, it was advertising.

Yup, the GW1 beta weekends where very smooth. Dont remember one problem.

I'd say it will be July at the absolute earliest. There's a rather big expansion for another MMO due out later this year and they will want to keep it away from that if possible in order to attract as many people from the other game as they can. If those people have something large to focus on they may be less inclined to try GW2.

On the flip side of that, you could say they want to get GW2 out to try and put people off the expansion for the other game, but people will generally always go with the familiar if they are forced to choose.

Have there been any hints of a release date, an original target date perhaps?

I havn't pre purchased the game myself yet (was actually going to do it in a few days after recieving my components) my friend however who's been playing the betas, has said a lot of stuff needs fixing, rebalancing and tweaking. He and other testers feel gw2 might not make the summer holiday release, although at this point it's pure speculation, nothing official has been stated.

which is okay I suppose Diablo 3 should keep us occupied until then..if blizzards servers hold up..

although there is no official release date, from the beta testing feedback and experience there is still a lot of stuff that needs amending, i expected a july release...but is a late 2012 release more realistic?

*sigh*

I pretty happy with a later rather than earlier release ....would like to get in a few months of TsW, before this game is out.

They've said it'll be ready when its ready.. which is the best way, i want a full proper game, not some rushed content like WoW... Pandas... really..

Yeah, I'm not 'pre-purchasing' a game that doesn't even have a rough release date. No chance!

I love how people are all up in arms over Pandas but talking cows and fairies are fine! :D :p

We’ll be conducting a stress test on Monday May 14 from 11 AM to 6:00 PM PDT (-7 GMT).

This special test event is open only to Pre-Purchase customers who have registered their accounts. With your help, we can conduct important tests and address some of the issues we identified during our first Beta Weekend Event. During this event, all you need to do is play normally with a new or existing character on your Beta account using the same game client. Please note that since this is a stress test of our servers, you may experience some in-game performance issues. If you’ve pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 and wish to participate in the stress test, we recommend that you register the account and download the game client.

Pre-Purchase customers, log in to the Beta Forums for more information and/or to download the Beta client if needed.

u need to understand this game is free to play, no monthly fees so if someone cant fork out £40 for a game, they wont fork out the same amount for any other game like diablo3, max payne 3 etc etc etc.

Fair enough of gw2 forced you to pay £10 a month, paying that money for gw2 and WOW will put people off and of course will choose one of them and not play both.

I do understand that. But they will want to keep people's interest as that will make them more money. More people playing = more money from the store.

I don't agree with any suggestion that they won't care about how many people are playing it because those people aren't having to pay monthly, it's not really relevant. Their system is reliant on people playing and buying things.

I think the same. August is a terrible month to release a game!

It wouldn't be for a company wanting to get a lot of people playing/buying it though as it will be summer holiday for all the kids. It would be out before the WoW expansion and probably appeal to a lot of kids.

Yeh, good point.

Maybe I've been living here too long but August is a dead month as everyone is away on holiday.

I'm not sure that will be completely true, they managed for years with GW1 just on the proceeds of box sales for the original and a yearly expansion. It's quite possible the income from the store will be just gravy.

Let me rephrase then. Their system making them a fortune is reliant on lots of people playing and buying things. :p

Who doesn't like a fortune? :D

I had a nice idea for an MMO which could fit around GW2, Dungeons as normal but instead of mobs you clear to get to a dungeon its pvp, so you battle on 3-4 stages that fit in with a dungeon then if you beat the defenders you get a boss at the end to gain loot. Pretty simple but would work well, and then theres definately no definate way to get through an instance.

Apparently so are giant talking dog people like the Charr, but oh no, not pandas :p

I'm in the same boat as you Robbo I'm not pre-purchasing until they give me a release date.
