I am surprised that they have not gone with any raids for end game, seems to be a bit short sighted, but then they can always add them I guess if what they have is not working.

I really wouldn't say it's surprising, they've set out from the start to not follow MMO norms so to do all they've done and then stick in a tiered raiding endgame would be pretty stupid, and what would you be raiding for exactly?

The raiding could have followed any format, and line they wanted, from killing mini dragons to the bosses, end of the day this game is there to make money, to make money you need players, and player like end game raiding, tho I am not the greatest raider and much prefer the PvP, I can still see that a huge amount of MMO players play to raid.

Vanity gear.

You can still provide tier'd loot with minimal stats. Exactly like the loot you'd get from the hard mode dungeons.

Its hard to try compare any game to GW1 as it was never sold as a MMO, for my money for what GW1 was it was one of the best games of the decade!

WvW will also be a major part of this game, and I see a huge player base playing for almost entirely just that reason (well if it works :p)
But whatever GW2 is like on release besides a few the players will mostly be forgiving for a longish time, as the game is free, and they will get it working.

I'll be honest I was not 100% impressed when I played it in the few beta, think its 3 reasons for me, one is I guess in a tad old school and I like to see player progression b) the characters felt light to me, they seemed to lack substance.
3) I was not overly keen on the look of the game ( tho I think this is just because I was playing other MMO's at the time so its the new look thing).

Got a feeling this game is going to be reasonably polished on release, and one thing is for sure ArenaNet know how to make a F2P game work!

The good thing about this though, is because the game is free to play once bought, you can just go back to it when they add new stuff in if you find the game doesn't hold your attention long enough.

And I really don't think that the majority of MMO gamers are hardcore raiders, far, far from it. ANet have built the game from the ground up with accessibility in mind so it would be crazy to then lock stuff away behind 5 tiers of raiding 90% of the population would never see.

They could add any extra bits of loot in, people will raid for near anything.

No one ever said they were, again you reading into this things that no one has said, I'm not a hardcore raider anymore I like to maybe raid twice a week, as long as the raids don't go over 2/3hours.

I know you don't seem to see it but you don't have to be a hardcore raider to like raiding..
 
Probably holding back on raids for the first expansion, no point putting it all in now when they can work to improve them and charge extra for them at a later date.
 
Incidentally folks regarding raiding, I'm a casual gamer who can't sit for 4 hours straight on one game, but I'd like to option to raid occassionally. Lucky if I get 60mins undisturbed to play a game so I'm hardly hardcore :P

Raiding is another thing to do at max level other than craft, help guild mates and twiddle thumbs.
 
The 5 man explore mode is their equivalent of raiding, this isn't some 5 man hard mode WoW dungeons this is designed to be much harder then that apparently...

Give it a chance before writing it off.
 
I think the concept of raiding that people are so use to has been thrown out the window with GW2.

While there won't be any "instanced raids" like WoW or SWTOR as an example there will be epic events in area's like orr which require dozens people to finish. I remember seeing the video from 2010 where an event ended with a dragon which needed 30-40 players to defeat.

So there will still be "big" bosses to kill.

Personally I'm all for dungeons and events like they have in GW2, as much as I enjoyed the raiding in wow/swtor, the number of times I spent waiting around because we didnt have enough people for the 16/20/25/40 man raids to get starting out weighs the number of raids actually finished.

People that raid large scale even once a week are probably still within the top 5% of all players in a game, so not having any GW2 won't hurt its success at all.

Thank you, no need to shoe-horn raids into GW2 because they are seen as a 'norm'. As I said earlier in the thread, GW1 got by fine for years with an endgame without raids, this game will too.

Don't buy GW2 expecting raids, because there won't be any, specially ones like "previous" mmo's.

Don't complain about the lack of raids either because ArenaNET have been very transparent about not having them.

Come to think of it, back in the days of DAoC, there were no "large raids" as such until ToA (which killed the game for many). I know Darkness Falls existed but the number of people who actually killed Legion were a very tiny minority.

What it did have though, were massive open world encounters, world bosses and open world pvp, that game is still played by many now, more than 10 years after its release.
 
It doesn't need to have de facto 'Raids', but it will need something to captivate people who don't want to PvP all the time (which I believe it has already anyway).
