Guild Wars 2

Looking forward to playing this tonight, I'm expecting to be impressed.

I wonder how they'll cope with the demand.

They've done pretty well so far on dealing with demand. My only issues came with BW1 on the first day, since then its been laggy at times but playable.

Given the large number of new pre-orders and the fact that loads of beta codes have now been given out, I think it'll be a new challenge for them!

It will also be interesting to see how the new server infrastructure - fewer servers/home worlds with larger capacity - will cope with the influx of new people.

I take it you can choose to join European or US servers and both are starting at PDT 12 noon (8pm UK and 9PM CET)?

Correct.

Tempted to try Ranger this weekend, but was wondering how does the water pets work? (shark and such), is there cases where we can use them or can we use them all the time?

Maybe my google skills are failing me but can't find any info on it

I believe that you can have several pets on your character and rotate between them. So when you're in water you'll have the water based pets and when on land you'll have to swap to a land based pet. Of which you can have several and rotate between them.

I've just read all the blurb and what they are hoping to achieve simply can't be done with today's technology.

How can they have worlds where your actions change the focus of the world and each player's interaction can have consquences for the world.

This can't be done imagine the code involved and the amount of data required to be spooned out to players, it will lag like hell.

I bought the game but after watching the ads for the game I feel like I'll be disappointed.

i bet that when the game launches officially it will be smooth sailing. it has to be otherwise these beta's were all meaningless

Not sure if you're trolling or not. All MMO's have betas and all of them are laggy on release, it's something you have to expect when you have so many people in such a small area as they are on launch.

I've had same character for last few Beta's. Unless this is any different, then I believe you will get to keep your chars from the last few, but they will get erased for full release?

everything is being wiped for this beta and after this beta for launch, the only thing that will carry over to the release is the gems you buy in the item store.

The amount of beta tests isn't really all that relevant to server stability. SWTOR had a few and the launch was a disaster.

Same for most WoW expansions, Diablo III (was in beta for ages), etc.

Not at all, as Robbo said, a game having numerous beta's doesn't mean it's going to be a good release, that's not to say that i don't hope that GW2 doesn't have a good release, because i do want it to have a successful release.
