Guild Wars 2

Wow.

Sounds epic.

How was the first one? Are servers well populated? Is it consistently updated with new content?

Would you advise buying this on launch or waiting for patches?

Also, where's best to buy from?

I never played the 1st one but from what I gather they didn't patch in new content in a traditional sense, they released their content in the form of a new box every 6 months to a year (ish), the new content wasn't strictly what you would call an expansion either more like a new game than you could start afresh with or carry on. One of the resident GW1 guys could explain it better than I can. Server pops were well maintained I gather.

True, but how much content is going to be available from launch? Been stung with terrible MMo's many times in the past lol

Regarding GW2, I beleive no one really knows how ArenaNet are going to go about adding new content when the game goes live. Will they be in the GW1 style of sideways content that you can pick up and play from scratch or play through with existing chars or if it will be traditonal expansion style content. They could even go down the DLC route of new zones, Dynamic Events etc.

As to when to buy it, get it as soon as possible. This game has to succeed if the genre is to survive imo.

£49.99?

Bloody hell.

I'm interested, just dunno if its worth that much!

Also the price comment, if you take WoW as an example the average price of an expansion is approx £200 (box price and sub price) to see all the content promised on the back of that expansion box. £50 is nothing in comparison.

If you really want the 3 day headstart then order from ArenaNet themselves from the offical GW2 site. It's more expensive than a normal purchase however

And by "more expensive" we mean it's a £10 premium for three days of early play - £18 if you factor in the best promotional code I know of. That's almost the cost of an entire game. It's downright scandalous.

Im literally so close to buying.

Girlfriend will probably cut my head off for spending £50 on a game though, lol.

Can we pre-load? or do i need to download all 25gb on Saturday?

After purchasing you can download the client right away, and take part in any stress tests that may take place before release.

But 3 days means you get the names you want as all names are unique across all servers.

As for content in the game currently.

There are 25 zones in total, 5 of which are 100% unique for each race, another 5 are shared between certain races and the remaining 15 zones are shared by all races. OF course any race and enter any zone they wish.

The first 2 zones are good for 15+ hours play or 2 days if your hardcore!

During the BWE events (3 days) I was able to get level 30 each time, completing each zone 100% (3 zones in total), that was playing for 8+ hours at a time!

So content wise, there's more than enough to start with.

**** it! Im sold.

Is there a specific server you guys are going on?

I believe most of the OCuk lot are going on the Desolation server, wab is the guy to pester for a guild invite.

Me personally my guild/alliance which are over a 1500 strong and include several major media sites are going to a different server ;-)

Those 25 zones also don't take into account the 8 dungeons available in the game, each dungeon has 4 different modes as well (story and 3 explorable modes) effectively making a total of 32 dungeons to explore :)

Can anyone tell me when the pre-orders will be dispatched? Apparently if you pre-ordered the game you can get access a day early, BUT the 27th is a bank holiday, so does that mean they will ship the game out for the 25th?

One could argue that the patches and support on WoW is better.

If your comparing it to Guild Wars 1 then very much so. WoW has great support for new content. It's the one reason I stopped playing Guild Wars 1 as I ran out of things to do. GW1 was more PvP based though than PvE. This time PvE has been brought up to scratch.

Nobody should be looking at this as a WoW beater. WoW is very much still king for now.

I dont think any sane person is saying such a thing. WoW is currently king of the pile, I dont think it will be for very long but that's more to due to the quaility of the game being on a downward spiral.
