Talk to the scouts, the telescope on the map. They will reveal more of the map without you going there, otherwise it's just a case of exploring, but the scouts should help.

List of issues currently being worked on, taken from the GW2 reddit (linky)

1. Account security - We're seeing an uptick in reports of account theft and attempted account theft. We believe hackers are using databases of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and pre-existing trojan horses, to search for matching Guild Wars 2 accounts which they attempt to compromise. To prevent this, we have temporarily disabled the "reset password" feature, and we're working to bring email authentication online. To protect yourself, please ensure that you use a unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you don't use for any other game, email account, forum or web account.

2. Email authentication - Email authentication is a feature that notifies you if someone tries to log into your account from a location you've never logged in from before. Thus, even if someone guesses your game password, he can't log in unless he also guesses your email account password. You can make email authentication even more secure by using an email provider that supports two-factor authentication, such as Google or Yahoo, and taking advantage of that. We're currently preparing email authentication and intend to deploy it in a phased rollout, starting on Thursday, August 30.

3. Parties, guilds, etc. - Parties, guilds, and other social features are periodically failing. This causes issues such as party members not appearing on the map, and party members not staying in the same overflow servers as they travel between maps. This happens particularly during times of peak usage. We're working to fix related problems and mitigate this issue with each subsequent update.

4. Worlds - Many worlds are filling up. We're keeping the number of worlds constrained so that worlds stay well populated even after the initial surge of high concurrency. However, we will add worlds as necessary. As of Wednesday, August 30, all German language worlds are full and all French language worlds are at high usage, so we're adding two new German language worlds and one new French language world.

5. Overflow worlds - During this initial surge of high concurrency, and especially while many characters are low-level and thus playing in the same starting areas, it's common for players to be directed to overflow maps. If you want to play with a friend, but you’re not on the same overflow map, you can form a party together, then right-click on your friend's portrait in the party list and click "join". Note that this functionality is sometimes intermittently unavailable due to the "parties, guilds, etc." issues noted above.

6. Trading Post - We're working to bring the Trading Post back online. To help test, we've temporarily made it available to a random 15% of players, while we work to resolve remaining capacity constraints that will allow us to open it to everyone.

Edit: We have completed our live testing of the Trading Post for today and the Trading Post is now in maintenance for all players. Thank you everyone that participated; this test has helped us tremendously.

7. In-game mail - We detected a potential abuse of the in-game mail system and have temporarily disabled in-game mail to prevent any such abuse. We'll reenable it soon, hopefully in tonight's update.

8. Botting - We'll start substantial banning of bots on Wednesday, August 29. Since we're currently seeing widespread casual, unsophisticated botting, we will start with 72-hour bans for first offenses. In the coming days, as we address the casual botting problem, we plan to switch to our normal policy of permanently banning anyone who runs a bot.

9. Forums - Our most important priority at the moment is to ensure that the game runs stably and flawlessly. So as to not create additional demand on our infrastructure and on our programming team, we made the decision not to open the forums until the initial mass influx of players has calmed down a bit.

Next software updates - The next update of the game server and back-end server software will take place tonight at midnight Seattle time. The game may be unavailable for approximately 20-60 minutes while we perform the update. We expect this update to have fixes for email authentication and in-game mail. Our continued work on the Trading Post is not tied to game updates, so we will continue to test Trading Post updates throughout the day.

I think I have decided, the game is great, the events are amazing. Good fun, but the leveling just seems pointless to me... Have no real 'goal' to get to. In WoW, hit it on the head. You play your character to level xx, gaining skills, talents etc etc on the way. Giving you something to aim for. Once you got to the end game. You knew how to play and what your play style was.

Sure there were stronger builds than others. But none the less.

GW2, it's only flaw is the biggest for my in my opinion. No aim or 'feel' for your character. Try out several weapon types and combos, find the one that suits you. Done. Level 10 sorted. Sure you get a few more skills over time. But they are not play style changers. Leaving you with 70 levels of events and quests.

So yea, sadly, not the MMO I have been looking for :( Have 5 level 15's now, and just don't feel like playing anymore.

Absolute shame really, as if it had the same leveling mechanics as WoW (talents and skills every 2 levels), I would have been in heaven.

Please, don't get me wrong, GW2 is amazing, the devs have done a FANTASTIC job with this. Really good game and thoroughly rec it to anyone looking for a new MMO.

i dont understand your posts about the leveling up. you get skills and traits in gw2 just the same as you do in WOW but in a different way ie completing skill experience specific quests and events.

the leveling up imo is a breath of fresh air. i like the idea how a complete noob player in level 1 can start fighting epic WvW and pvp battles right off the bat without worrying that they have to level to max level like WoW.

I also like the fact that your level scales so if you are level 50 and decide to explore one of the many awsome starter zones, u can and still earn good xp points whilst it still being a challenge as your level gets downgraded. how can u not like that?

each to their own though but i dont think you fully understand gw2 leveling system and gameplay.

1 and 2 should have been planned for prior to the release but at least they are taking measures quickly.

Is the login server down again?

So I dinged level 73 last night, entered the last of the lowbie zones before heading to Orr.

Exploration is the key now, because there are no renown hearts at all!

Of all the dungeons I have done so far, Ascalon Catacombs was the hardest, its the only dungeon where the trash has been significantly harder than the bosses.

In saying that though I fully understand why, jumping in at the deep end so to speak really does teach you how to play properly.

I've yet to experience this lag outside of the WvW. Been fine on Desolation for me.

I remember the WoW launch on my original server, it was that laggy I couldn't log in for weeks until server transfers.

I know we are all reasonably well educated in IT related matters.

But to the people who are getting password reset emails, go to the Guild Wars 2 site and change your password to something strong.

For example Ilik3ApPl3Pi3!$&%

Write it on a piece of paper and have it in front of your monitor.

Job done. No one will get into your account if you have capitols, numbers and symbols.

They've disabled it for now but yes I will be doing this!

Lag was horrific for me lastnight, missed out on an event it locked up for so long loool. It wasnt so bad in Divinitys Reach, exploring that place was fun, looks really nice as well.

Now for the rest of Queensdale...

I love the gameplay, and i love a good challenge and that, but Ascalon Catacombs is mega hard for a first dungeon. It feels like 2 dodge rolls is not enough for how frequent some of the trash mobs attack, especially the ranged elemental mobs. Still was a lot of fun though! And got tons of xp a the end of it 3/4 at level at 35!

Regarding account "hacking"

Unless you have a stupidly simple password it's unlikely your account will be brute forced (read - hacked). Even with a simple password it's unlikely but possible.

Likely sources of account compromises are:

- Your system is compromised (Keylogged, other purpose built virus or via whatever the latest Java/Flash/PDF exploit is etc)

- You used the same email/password for GW2 on another game/account that was compromised. Eg - Your email/password you used for your Exploited Company X account is in a database that people are attempting to use on GW2. If they are the same, you are screwed. You might be totally unaware of this, a company does not always broadcast it's security failings. You can bet your bottom dollar that any leak of emails/passwords is worth money to someone and your details will be accessible. USE A UNIQUE PASSWORD

- You were phished and clicked an illegitimate link in an email that appeared to be legit
