Is it any surprise that some of the most popular tracks being created in “Guitar Hero: World Tour”’s music creation studio are ripped from video games?
When GH Tunes launched in late October, the most popular songs on the service were based on music from “Super Mario Bros.” and “The Legend of Zelda.”
But they aren’t anymore.
Based on a recent search, those songs do not appear to be on the service any longer, likely a result of copyright infringement monitoring from Neversoft and Activision Blizzard — but they are still on my hard drive. The creators of the game can’t remotely delete material.
However, the blips and bloops of Mario and Link have been replaced with other video game jingles, ranging from “Final Fantasy” to “Sonic the Hedgehog” and even “DOOM.”

Here are the video game tunes people are rocking to in the top 50, as of this morning:

#1 — Cerulean City (”Pokemon”)
#6 — Spark Mandrill (”Mega Man X”)
#11 — Bubble Bobble (”Bubble Bobble”)
#17 — Banjo Rockooie (”Banjo Kazooie”)
#18 — Airman (”Mega Man 2″)
#20 — Electric Chocobo (”Final Fantasy”)
#22 — Still Alive (”Portal”)
#23 — Brimstar (”Metroid”)
#25 — Green Hill Zone (”Sonic the Hedgehog”)
#42 — Farewell Hyrule (”The Legend of Zelda”)
#44 — DOOM Win Music (”DOOM”)

Even though some Nintendo tunes appear to have disappeared from the GH Tunes service, others, such as “Portal”’s Still Alive, remain available. The continued availability of Still Alive is a bit stranger, given that the “real” version is available as a free download for “Rock Band.” The “Guitar Hero” version is much less interesting to play, sans vocals.
More and more “real” music is creeping up the charts, though. We’re only in the very beginnings of people experimenting with “Guitar Hero”’s tools, so it makes sense people would be playing with 8-bit charts they already know.
In the top 100 of the most recently added music, from what I could tell, there were no copyright infringers to be found. Rather, there were countless “custom songs” and “jams” and “insane solo” tracks that people were experimenting with.
What custom-songs are you playing in “Guitar Hero”?

You can create your own tracks and upload them to others? How does this work?

Sorry, there can only be one. Hero.

Cheers for the feedback, I love GH3 and have tried the demo at a couple of places for Rock Band. Just not too sure if I should sink so much money for Rock Band when RB2 is around the corner + the guitar isn't wireless... Drumming is a good gimmic to mess around with though.

Get RB2 solus and any instruments you fancy :) GH3 guitars are probably best imo.

Rent/borrow RB and transfer the tracks for the 400 MS Points fee :)

Win :)

The only problem with it is during your tour you play RB1 and your DLC songs. So you could end up with GGAHT's to try win your tour bus, which would be a killer lol
I've been lucky so far to avoid it lol

well ive finally put some time in with this at first i want a lover but its growing on me slowly now ive got to some of the better tracks.

the game does seem easy but then ive now spent best part of a year getting allright at rock band and gh3(super hard) its not surprise that i find it easier since gh3 was really hard. ideally this will match rock bands expert level which i thought was doable with a few runs through on most songs.

the wifes happily moaning and wailing to the beastie boys as i type:)

havent got the damn instruments but was if i decide to get them going to get them and then with my reciept for the original game take the game included in drum set back for a refund.

the game has a a in game studio thing (i forget the game mode) but you can basically make your own music and then share it on GH tunes. I really love this mode cuz its free to use free to share and free to download.

Cracking idea imo

My copy arrived today but got a question.

I'll be using the Rockband drums but how do you activate Starpower as you hit the 2 cymbols together on the GH drums?

Whats the last career venue? I got to the end of the sting song and realised I'd zoned out. Was thinking about every thing apart from what I was doing. This is the best of his songs they could pick?

tbh i think its more a case of what he/record label would let GH use.

I dunno just a thought i havnt the slightest idea just a guess.
I have to say though im not as pulled to play this one as i was GH3. I dunno what it is.

Well i do now my xbox is dead. but even b4 it died i still just ended up playing RB or GH3 still. I just think theres no song there really that makes me want to play it over and over again. Except Never too Late - The Answer I loved that tune.

Yeah thats it bang on for me, i'm playing this and my mind drifts. Some of the songs are the same dull old pap one tone songs. Sometimes I've started a song in a tier and thought I had selected the one i'd just done again.

I just want to finish hard tour and get rid. Its actually a struggle to keep going. When people have said that to me I thought they exagerrated but its worse than aerosmith for tracks.

The only one so far to perk my interest up a notch was beat it.

Yet as you say there's nothing to keep me coming back.

I can't see activision coming back from this purely because people will stay over on RB and download too much content to give this a second glance again.

its funny how other places and forums that i read have GHWT tracklist being far better than RB2. Yet most say with DLC then RB2 which atm i would understand. Yet if i'm buying both then i cannot go wrong, lol.

To me GHWT track list looks fantastic - i know a lot more tracks on it than RB2 - but in the end having both and the choice of playing either is what i wanted anyway.

Its not about how the tracklist looks on paper, it's how they play and they all so far play pretty badly. When I picked up GH2 and 3 on paper looking at the setlist I though geez most of this stuff is pap but I will give it a go.

The same with rockband, none of the stuff blew me away and most of the songs i'd never heard of before. Yet there are many tracks there I can now just play over and over.

Both games introduced me to songs i'd never have considered before and had me buying albums.

On paper the GHWT setlist is the same, I thought it would be the same story. It's not its a poorly put together game and if you already have the les paul trust me your nuts to buy the new one. It adds nothing that the Les paul doesnt already have.

I will never sell rockband. Even when I've ported the songs over I will keep it. Yet if they announce a GHWT 2 there is nothing I'd want to port over. Literally. I've now done almost 60 songs and nothing stands out as fun to play.

An indication of how bad this is if you don't believe me is it seems no one who has a drum kit can even be arsed to see how the rockband one works with GHWT.

I think the problem is that although they are well know and good songs, they just aren't fun to play on a game. That might be the problem in trying to cater for a bigger audience.

I'm on the 4th gig and have the same feeling I got when I played Aerosmith. Boring minus a few later tracks that I enjoyed.

Must admit I'm looking forward to trying out the drums part on this, apparently they are good fun.

Its wierd isnt it though cuz as simo said theres quite a few good well know songs but just dont play well.
I will use eye of the tiger as an example big well known song. MY GOD how boring is it to play on guitar theres nothing to it at all.

Its just missing that something i dont know what it is but its missing it. imo i think guitar hero should have just stuck to the guitar sod the whole band idea. they should have stuck with just the guitar and impressive guitar orientated songs.

I have this gut feeling that the songs they picked was to try cater for all areas of the band ie singing + drums. Rather than what guitar hero is good at insane stupidly hard GUITAR SOLOS
