I'm new to Gumtree, but you can find some incredible bargains on there. Anyone else use it regularly?

I found a brand spanking new HTC M8 for £150, and a 2014 Macbook Air (turned on twice) for £300. It's worth checking if you need anything in particular

Yep. Loads of stolen kit on there. I avoid Gumtree and eBay as much as I can because I have a very low tolerance for stupidity and ignorance and unfortunately these two are abundant on those sites.

I take my hat off to people who make a living from them, you only need to have a quick scroll through GD to see what they go through.

I do purchase the odd bits and bobs as it's usually not bad but selling things? Nope. Not worth the frustration and inconvenience.

Moneysavingexpert has a little tool which you can use to find local deals to you on ebay as well, have a look, some surprisingly cheap stuff to be had.
 
That moment when you explicitly state that the item you're selling is collection only, then someone sends a message asking will you post it to them, and AT THE ASKING PRICE :mad:
 
In the highly unlikely event those were genuine ads (99.9% of ads like that are a scam), they'd be sold in seconds.

There are bargains out there - I actually used to make quite a lot of money off gumtree, but you have to be extremely careful and basically keep a database in your head of what everything in your particular category of interest is actually worth.
 
Just bought my Samsung Note 3 off there and drove 25 miles to pick it up.
I also swapped a Line 6 guitar pedal I haven't used for 5 years so got the phone for £125.
I spent 30 minutes messing with the phone while he spent 30 minutes messing with the pedal.

A couple of years ago I drove from Stoke to Bristol to buy a different Line 6 Pod HD500 guitar pedal and was able to play with it for 45 minutes before parting with my cash.

Nearly forgot, last year I bought two Mackie SRM450 PA cabs for £300 and didn't leave his house until I'd fully tested them.

There's other stuff and I've also sold a synth and Marshall guitar amp on there and the guys were able to spend time with them before parting with cash.

I'd also add that before setting off I check out where they live on Google Street View. For example I could have bought cheaper until I drove up & down the area on Street View.

I use it lots actually, buying and selling.

Be smart about it, if the ad is written poor... don't buy. If the response from an ad is poor, don't reply :)

Got my 7850K for 40 quid, lots of phones bought and sold over the years, consoles, games, other computer components, etc
 
Tried selling my phone after upgrading and despite being reasonably price got ridiculous chancers offering 50% lower than the ad price. Even despite it saying no offers.
 
I've never bought anything, however once you get past the time wasters selling isn't too bad at all!
 
I bought a laptop off there. It was boxed and looked new. He claimed it was incompatible for his needs so needed to sell it to buy another, he said it was a gift from his dad.... Why not return to seller you wonder?

When I went to collect it he was quite an unsavoury character and when I queried about the receipt in case I wanted to take it back to shop under warranty he said he'd lost it and he couldn't provide me proof of purchase because it was on his dad's credit card and he had since closed that account... All just complete BS of course and it was obviously nicked given how cheap it was. I was quite apprehensive being in his flat checking it out. I had to keep pointing out to myself that he is half my size and I could take him if he tried to mug me.

Shifty as hell :p I was relieved to get out of the front door.
 
Sold a sofa on there (first and only experience using Gumtree).

Buyer turned up with his girlfriend and father. They sat down on it said "It's nice" then handed me the money within about 30 seconds of sitting on it. I helped them carry it out to the van outside and they drove off, all within the space of 5 minutes. I was actually shocked at how easy and problem free it was.

I wouldn't put electronics on there, but for furniture it seems decent enough :)
 
Never bought anything via it.

Have sold lot of stuff though, but it is painful!

50% of offers are just plain stupid...
If you selling low end crap its great, but anything decent & they want it the same price as the crap!

Trying to sell a few things atm getting a lot scam texts.
Reply back to my Nigerian email send paypal etc etc :rolleyes:
 
Use Gumtree whenever I need to sell anything. Sold my PS3, speakers, 2015 iMac (for £1550, it's £2000 brand new). You get a lot of stupid time wasters messaging you, but you can sell it in the end.
 
I've sold some unopened games workshop kit on there, dropped it off at their house as well as a mac mini, and a guinea pig cage and accessory's. Had no problems, all cash only and felt fairly secure having people pick stuff up. Though i haven't bought off there yet.
 
Sold a gaming chair, logitech dfgt and an old TV on there. Just ignored the chancers and gave everyone who came the opportunity to try out the item first. Also bought a table and chairs from the site a year ago, full set for £45 in great condition, in fact sitting at it now so you do get some bargains.
