Why didn't the Police advise you to get a decent bike lock like a Kryptonite New York M18 or similar :D
 
As with most others really - always picked up some good deals and made some the other way too :) recently gave away the few bits and bobs which seemed to be in working order of my old PC which were: E8400 Dual Core Processor, 4GB (2x 2GB) Geil BlackDragon DDR2 800MHz RAM, Thermaltake 550W PSU , Arctic Freezer Pro 7 (I believe it was) CPU cooler, and whatever mobo it was - with it all on it still :) - literally gone within a minute of posting the giveaway, 5 instantaneous offers to collect which I had to of course turn away.

Most recently bought a 2nd hand but unused monitor. RRP is ~£130, got it for £75.

Trying to sell an unused PSU (got it in a bundle) but interest is poor, and getting offers from what's effectively a 2 hours drive away... lol
 
I sold my bike on Gumtree a while back, the bloke who came to pick it up said something along the lines of "it's good to see that there are some decent, genuine people on Gumtree"... Never realised it had such a bad rep before that :o
 
I use it quite a bit and never had any problems with anyone I have dealt with once a deal has been made. I've bought amps, tools, golf clubs and all sorts off gumtree. there's only one item which smacked of being stoled which was a brand new jigsaw; the ad and the price were not suspicious but when I got the actual item back i had a feeling.

I had a deal interupted by gumTree staff as it was reported as fraudulent (he was selling a Dewalt Drill which wasn't exactly 'too good to be true' but was priced keen) Gumtree must have had a complaint about him and it was stopped.


my BIGGEST issue with gumtree is people completly overestimating the value of their items. There's things I've been desperatly trying to buy where the seller just won't budge on price despite me knowing it's just not worth that much. you see the adverts being re-posted again and again and they wonder why they don't sell. I'd often go back and make my fair offer again and they refuse. kden

golf clubs were the worst for that I think! then 8 year old unbranded LCD TVs are probably next in line
 
Selling a car on Gumtree for my dad and just had a scammer. Apparently he wants it for his cousin, but he is wheelchair bound and wants to pay by paypal and have someone collect it.

How does this scam work? Surely I would not hand the car over until the money was safely in my bank account?

Forget it, once his collection person collects it, he will begin a claim on PayPal and say bye to your money

What about if you instantly transferred the money. Surely there must then be a way whereby you could prevent any money being taken from your account?

Not that I'm considering it, just wondering.

I believe if he wins a claim and you have to refund, they will just charge your bank account where the money was withdrawn to

And you cant notify the bank and prevent any payments from being taken? I would have thought preventing certain companies from accessing your account at your request to be a mandatory procedure in British banking.

Collection only = cash or BT. Never PayPal.
 
Love Gumtree, I don't mind fielding the odd trier or lowballer and everything I've sold has gone in less than a day for asking price or a tenner less. No worries about meeting people at home or close to it, I'm high up and my front door is at least as effective as a moat and drawbridge. Even had a bloke pay me by paypal f&f (the idiot) for two thermostats that I posted to him in scotland.
 
Love Gumtree, picked up a little Clio Dci 1.5 back in 2009 for 1000 quid with only 45,000 on the clock, still running around in it to this day :)

Probably because their email system is ******* useless. Every time I've been emailed about something I'm selling I'm worried it makes me look bad because of the dire methodology the site uses - and I never get a response back to my email which I send to them... In fact you've just thankfully jigged my mind to stop putting my bloody email on my ads to sell stuff, of which I rarely do anyway!
