Gutted

Don't think he got that far.. After he used all his thermal paste in the socket and had none left for the cooler, he realised the problem.

i see what Emphacy is saying with the push pin cpu cooler i had to bounce on my OCZ gladiator to get the click. witch would move the cpu pins/pads then when thay move back may make some damage BUT how would that bend them to the left/right/up/dawn and brake them off and put compound in there ?

and if he dose not have an adequate level of competence? we all start somewhere, he could be 13yo and this could be his first build

£400 quid at 13, he must have lots of paper rounds, oh and then he must be into a little fraud for paying for the goods as at 13 i couldnt buy online as no credit/debit card

I would have gone with "it came like that" rather than this massive "uneven pressure etc etc". Quality control misses things but forum members don't.

i had a £2000 dell pc at 15 and i had no paper round

i would have battered the box and broke the board :D then said dpd did it.

BUT that would be wrong and should never be done

Holy ****! Had me in stitches for about 20 minutes.
But in all seriousness, I also think that's TIP in there.

i had a GFX card from the bay (auction site) and the parcel had a foot print on it.

LMFAO!!

I would have no problem taking the awkward cooler story since i know they can be absolute terrors however the pins are so randomly bent and some are missing. Dave0w's story is much more believable since I have cleaned sockets with kitchen roll and isopropanol, you just have to go with the grain of the pins which obviously did not happen. I have also had success in fixing bent pins and/or bending them back.

To get serious OP, once OCUK have laughed at your story, e-mail ASUS as they will repair broken sockets for a fee (much cheaper than getting a new board).

OP

a word of warning, this item is severely warranty void.

if you try to RMA this to OcUK then there will be absolutely nothing we can do about it.

the socket is broken beyond all belief.

the way supplier returns works is that we pre test faulty items to ensure that when forwarding them to suppliers, we are not then charged for wasting their time.

if we were to send this back to the supplier, they would simply reject it so we wouldnt do it.

if you do send this in and we found it to be faulty [im guessing there is a high chance this will happen] then we would have to process a testing charge for the item.

i think it is best in this instance that you either consider buying a new board
or

as mentioned above, email Asus directly, they will be able to attempt a repair on the board.
however, there is no guarantee that a repair would be successful, dependant on the damage.

Wow just seen the pics.... There is no way on earth that a cpu placed correctly no matter how tight the latch is would do that and I have done 1000's of pc and server builds, you either had something under the cpu when inserting it or you tried to wipe that with some cloth... Or you have a cat that walked all over it before you inserted the cpu.. Or again it came like that to you... BUT did you not look at the socket to make sure it was ok before inserting the cpu ? Also why are some of the pins bent in different angles ?

Send it back to Asus and ask them for a repair or replacement.. I doubt they will repair it maybe they will be nice and send you a replacement.. Send them an email with some better pictures of the socket damage and see what they say... No point sending that back to OCUK for RMA they will just say user error that caused the damage.

Sorry mate not really much you can do with that, not even with my soldering skills I wouldn't try replacing that 1155 socket.. that is if you can even source a socket to replace it with in the first place.

This is unbelievable. Pretty certain, no matter how tight the CPU socket lever it wouldn't do this kind of random pin damage. If it was too tight you'd see bent pins in one direction, most likely in one corner or along one side. Probably also some remnant of thermal paste in there. Unlikely that it came in this condition, but I'm sure anyone building a pc would check the socket before they popped in the CPU! OcUK would never accept this for RMA as above, clearly they'll just state user damage. Only shot would be contacting Asus and hoping their CS can accept it for repair or even send out a replacement (again quite unlikely). OP bite the bullet an buy a new board. Sorry.

This would have been more believable, but is clearly wrong!

Ouch tough crowd :p

Probably not the best idea to ask about an RMA on the forum for the site where you bought the item when it has suspect damage.

Either way. I'm sure the guy did not mean to break his newly purchased mobo, accidents do happen.

Expensive much? I built my first PC when I was 15 out of parts from old computers. I swapped the motherboard for one with a Pentium 3 as opposed to pentium 2 and wondered why it still had windows 95 and not XP :(

Confusing times, I got angry and hit it with a hammer... game over.

Was a cpu even present when the cooler was installed?

Id say learn from your mistake get some quotes from Asus or a 3rd party for a repair. But even so id buy a new board. Also check the CPU is still ok.

I will admit my Asus Delux was really stiff. I did stop and think this cant be right it feels like im going to push it through the board. But after checking I went for it and it was fine.
