H1Z1 - Zombie apocalypse sandbox from SOE

I wanted to take this opportunity to solicit ideas from people interested in H1Z1 regarding how we monetize it. You will be surprised to hear we have intentionally left the decisions about what to monetize until we can hear from you. This isn't some contrived thing.. I'm being serious. It is a nearly blank slate.
So the floor is open for ideas. I'm going to have a few simple requests for your thinking process:

1) This will be a F2P game (after early access). During early access it's going to cost $19.99 to play.

2) We are not interested in selling weapons. Weapons are only aquired by crafting or exploring and finding one. We are not selling power.

3) The game at it's core is about survival. Our preference is not to sell ANYTHING that can help with that. If this game is too hard for you play another one. We don't want to give shortcuts for our core mechanic.

4) Wearables - we DO see wearables as an obvious "heck yes" kind of thing. I think it's perfectly reasonable to have most wearables be purchaseable. Of course we will still have plenty to craft, find and wear for free.

5) We made this game because we love making games and entertaining our players is why we exist. That being said, we do need to make money. Your ideas are appreciated greatly but if we can avoid the "hey give us everything for free because you owe it to us since you're a big company and we should get free games" commentary it would help a lot.

So with the above in mind, we welcome a serious dialogue about this. We're listening and if you want to have a say in this, now's the time.

Dayz much? Im actually really interested in this, having like 15,000 SOE credits or whatever those things were when I was in my PS phase. Looks halfway decent, so yeah. Rock on.

this one will actually see development on a regular basis I would imagine..

I must have downloaded about 5gb+ in updates from arma3
in the same time dayz SA has probably had a few hundred mb at best and bugger all content

meh....
Wearables and camouflage is a large part of the survival mechanic I can already imagine where this is going....

you probably won't even find cargo pants on a washing line

take it you dont know sony. ;)

cash innnnnnnnnnnnnnn . notice how late to the party they are that why they don't have a clue.

probably do well on console on pc already flop.

dayz only party was when they got millions...
then the party ended because the music stopped playing.

It wouldn't take long for a f2p game to steal all dayz users at the rate dayz is going and most people playing boiling point likely consider it a stop gap

the thing is a ftp play could steal the users but it still has to have good ideas and gameplay.

ftp is a lie.

ftp is just to get you in the door to pay.

sony are well known for exploiting anything to get that dollar.

can they catch up and get it done while still being cool ? = no

why ? cause being cool has a timeline which they wernt a part of.

this is why so many hating on SA at moment as they haven't pulled it off when it should be out NOW !

a lot are or have switched to arma 3 mods to which are ahead already on any projects. so sony are trying to catch up on projects already behind.

in other words its already uncool on pc before its even started. its warz nether all over again but done on a big scale :p

if you want to know whats in at the moment its breaking point mod on arma 3 , 2017 , they are the ones to play look into.

I'm glad it's you posting all this gibberish dg as you already have a reputation for it so people know to pay no attention - if it were anyone else people might actually listen :p

I don't think anyone is under any illusion as to what Free to Play means - of course it is to get you in the door to pay! They're not a charity!

There are a number of things that this game is promising that make it stand out from pretty much all the rest, and that's what I'm interested in. If I'm honest I'm not really fussed about it being zombies, I'm more interested in the fact that it has proper crafting, an economy and is from a developer that has created amazing things in these areas in the past.

Glad I clicked on this eventually, had no idea this was the "successor" can't wait to try it. I wonder if it will have that feeling, I just haven't got from any other mmo.

Things is - we have a shed load of zombie survival games, but I'm still waiting for a good one. If it takes a 100 attempts then so be it, as long as we eventually get an epic The Walking Dead/World War Z scale online zombie-em-up.

Oh look!
It's yet another Zombie survival game.

Do developers lack originality and inspiration lately?

Yes they are late to the party but compared to what we normally get which is a shooter or a rpg the Zombie genre is relatively young compared to other genres. I for one will be reserving judgement until I can play it. We will find out in 6 weeks:)

Yeah, but if the clothes cost £5, it's still better than paying £30 for a game.

posting gibberish then you agree with me :p

i understand what ftp is. ftp is gaming in the future. many don't realize how big it is and how big its going to be.

crytek have said in future all there games will be ftp call of duty online is also doing well abroad many other big developers have projects starting or being made for ftp.

you maybe interested in this project but because i just said its going to flop you think my posting is gibberish ?

no , what you don't seem to get i understand your side fully is this is being made by sony first for console why ? because they haven't got a Dayz !

so they took the idea and thought hell well do our own.

the things i pointed out though are very true sony is too late to the party on pc. this thread is in the pc section the game will do well on console platform but not on pc as the market is saturated.

people are saying this but you seem to not understand it. its not needed in a over saturated market. not only that there are free mods that are already out and better than this will ever be.

so no hook ins, no tie ups extra money they are free and out now. sony cant beat them as they are behind.

hope that clears up the gibberish for you.

couldn't agree more this concept deserves to be made into what it should be its hard to master though I suppose the main point being lives etc do you die and start again or just have checkpoints as it removes the 'scary' side of the game if when you die you die, but then it makes it so much harder to actually achieve something. perhaps they could do it as where its difficult to get to level 10 but once your there its a milestone so everytime you die you return to that level and this continues for say level 20/30 etc
