H1Z1 - Zombie apocalypse sandbox from SOE

Incoming long post.

Adexus (new on the forum) and I decided on a server and a location on the map. This was going to be our new "home".

We both spawned in and started heading towards our agreed co-ordinates. (you can type /loc in to chat to get your co-ordinates)

It probably took us around 20 minutes to eventually meet up at our agreed location, it was dark and raining. I had scouted the area previously on another game to find a suitable location. Along the way we managed to find a few supplies. Enough to get us through the first night.

Recipes we managed to craft:
  • Satchel
  • Bow and Arrows
  • Animal Traps
  • Campfire
  • Bow Drill (for lighting the fire)
  • Makeshift Hatchet
  • Blackberry Juice

We established our camp and set up a few Animal Traps to catch some rabbit, we also managed to hunt down a deer and cook up some venison steaks.

Now that we have a sustainable food source (rabbit, berries, water, fire) we are going to start collecting supplies to build a proper settlement.

We've seen a few hordes of Zeds and been attacked by Wolves too.

Wouldn't it be cool if you can craft a camo sheet to throw over the car to hide it in the woods!

I just hope mine is still there when I log in tonight...is anyone on the salvation server?

Also I still get hit when mowing the zeds down with my car...I died but still managed to get all my gear back. Never ran so quickly without getting the food/water

The issue that lacks in all these zombie MMOs is actually deadly zombies. One on it's own is a piece of cake however when there are multiple it's going to be interesting. Already like the "homing" feature where even if you setup in the woods it still attracts them here and there.

The group I'm playing with are on a 1st person, headshot only, recipe-loss US server, there's 10 of us when we're all online. We were doing constant supply runs into the warehouse section of Pleasant Valley the other night hunting for metal sheets and pipes (pipes smelt down to make bars which can make sheets!) to finish off the walls for our base. The zombie heat map definitely works. We got caught up with a couple of stand-offs with other people whilst running around all the warehouses and were generally dilly-dallying rather than just popping in and out. Suffice to say that after twenty minutes or so there was a very sizeable horde giving us some issues. Easily expended 70+ arrows myself, the majority of which were on that horde alone! Funny seeing people coming towards the area, seeing the solid blob mass of zombies slide pass and they turn around and leg it back the way they came! :D

I think the graphics are pretty awesome, the weather effects etc really add to the atmosphere.

How does one obtain scrap metal? I have tried hitting a car with a branch... the branch eventually broke.

I tried to purify some water on a fire i started, i put the bottle in the fire and nothing happened :(

If you build a shack etc... does it disappear when you die? I'd like to start establishing a permanent presence in the game.

Hit the wrecked cars or vans with a crowbar to get Scrap Metal. Usually takes two or three hits to get some.

Did you definitely put the water in the fire, or in proximity? Use the fire like a container and place it in there, will take about 10 seconds to purify :)

As for the shack disappearing, I'm not entirely sure. I've had people tell me they do, but I killed someone outside a shack he had just built yesterday and the shack remained. (He started it, I was quite happy to carry on walking by, he shot the first arrow and missed) :p

No, nothing disappears. However it can be broken, vandalised, etc.

I watched this vid on Youtube about this game as a few friends seem to be playing it, so stressed just watching it! Not sure it's my cup of tea but I've since watched a couple of guys streaming and loved the antics :)

Servers will be going down at 2:00PM with an approximate downtime of up to 2 hours. Servers should be returning around 4:00PM Pacific.

The update includes the following fixes:
•Fixed issue with loot rules which were preventing spawning items inside containers
•Metal Gate should now work properly
•Floating Arrows should no longer cause damage or obstruct vehicles.
•Structures are now more resistant to damage
•Zombies should no longer slide or attack while knocked down
•Dragging a stack of items that was too large to fit in your inventory would not move any of the stack. It now tops off as much as it can fit
•Fixed issue where the inventory wouldn't accept the maximum it could hold when picking up items from proximity/containers.
•The dew collector should work now, seriously
•Adjusted many items so that they will stack in the inventory properly
•Added a recipe for a Metal Door that is more durable than a wooden door
•Additional server list sorting options are now available
•The inventory option "Delete" has been removed
•“Drop”, “Unload” and “Place” inventory options have been removed from proximity items
•Rebalanced melee damage, including fists
•Enabled melee headshot damage for NPC's and players Have feedback on the new melee changes? Post them in Jimmy's thread here
•Fixed issue with the Runamok Toxic Cavern container not working
•Stagnant water can now be purified in barbecue.
•Bear meat can now be cooked on a barbecue.
•Rabbit stew can now be cooked. It now requires cooked rabbit meat instead of raw rabbit meat.
•Hammers, wrenches, and combat knives can now be melted down into bars inside of a furnace.
•Some larger items like the machete and AR15 now yield more metal bars when melted in a furnace.
•Animal traps now take damage.
•The animal trap recipe now require four nails.
•Fixed picking overlapping blackberry bushes where players sometimes had crouch to pick them successfully
•Fixed event tickets so that tickets found in the world are granted and the name and count show up properly

Epic, another big update.

Spawned over by Pleasant valley and had a rather interesting close encounter. Went to the police station as I found a gun in one of the houses and thought there would be ammo in the obvious place. Found 3 rounds but that was it.

Was just leaving that room to head up the stairs when around the corner I see 3 people at the top of the stairs with bows primed pointing at me.. Quickly got out, god knows how, after taking an arrow in my leg which slowed my movement down. They shouted over voice "friendly"...

Drew my bow and waited.. Sure enough one of them came down to try and finish me off so he promptly got an arrow in the face, instant death. Waited a bit longer and then the 2nd guy came around the corner even slower which was rather foolish as he got the same treatment.

Decided to move closer so I could loot the 1st guys bag and he luckily was loaded with back pack, bandages, etc.. Healed up and ran out into the hall way where the 3rd guy missed his shot. After numerous arrows, me moving to the 2nd floor and him retreating to the top floor I managed to take him down with an arrow to the head.

Really, really, really enjoying this game at the moment.

Took their loot including a quest key and decided to try my luck around the rest of the town. Heard gun fire in the middle, then voice chat, then heard arrows go past my head so decided to leg it through the town, down alley ways, over fences until I managed to get out and logged.
