H1Z1 - Zombie apocalypse sandbox from SOE

Yeah I think they are mainly trying to balance the loot atm, kinda pointless imo though as the map is not full size yet so they will have to go through it all again. Might as well just leave the loot then balance it when map is complete. Map size should really be on top of the list I would have thought, then raise player count, work on stability again. After that loot/content. But hey I am no dev and have no idea how it should be done, but that order makes sense to me for some reason.

fair point. that's how I'd be looking at it. but I aint no dev either so maybe there are certain steps they have to follow coding wise?

Is this just another pay to win game ? If so it seems to be a common issue nowadays, " This isn't a pay to win game, however if you pre order we will give you this and this and this ".

No. The only thing you can buy are airdrops which drop around the map and have a like 10% chance to give you a gun. But you still have to get to the drop and others can steal it and kill you.

The problem with that is the types and quantity of loot is a major factor in how people play the game. If you play for 6 months with 100s of guns and ammo or food a plenty, you will get used to playing in a style suiting lots of guns, ammo and food. If six months later after increasing the map size they remove 80% of the items, you may then be put off playing, because the style of play will be completely different.
If they adjust loot now before people have got into a play style, it will be better.
As the map size increases, the loot quantity will increase, and they can then adjust it again to bring it back to how they want it.

It happens with a lot of alphas, a major change in game mechanic too far into production can alienate players.

Nice, funny though my shack was untouched for two weeks. I found a decent spot, although it only takes one random lost person to find it lol. Think I will build there again though after this wipe.

Servers will come down at 7AM for approximately 4 hours.

This will include a full server wipe and only allow for one character per server after the patch.

Release Notes

  • Sitting will cancel auto-run.
  • Fixed a bug where players can interrupt equip actions too quickly.
  • Fixed an issue where ammo count could become incorrect if you interrupt a reload action.
  • Objects making noise above or below you in a multi-story building will now be properly attenuated.

  • Fixed /respawn on PvE servers.
  • Fixed self-damage on PvE servers; the players may be the source of damage to themselves without mitigation.

It's better than standalone yes, is it better than the mod? It depends as the mod was the starting point for all the open world zombie games and had a certain nostalgia about it which is hard to beat. H1Z1 certainly works and runs better than both and if they keep adding and expanding it could easily end up the best out of the lot.
