H1Z1 - Zombie apocalypse sandbox from SOE

It would be nice if you could have a secret stash somewhere like under a tree or something or a hole in the ground where you could store a kitbags worth of stuff eg a set of clothes, compass, matches or handgun.

Really liking the look of H1Z1, I played abit of DayZ and Rust but both just felt broken and don't seem to be getting closer to being fixed. I guess if anyone has the money to get this game good its sony.

well there will be the opportunity for cooperative play and construction so presumably there would have to be some kind of banking system, if only between groups. i kind of like the idea of building a community rather than having a magical completely impervious bank accessible from anywhere. I hope it works like that.

My biggest concern by far is hackers and griefers. We all know what a shambles dayz was for hackers and griefers early days and this is F2P. Again i think community is going to be quite important in ensuring that is kept at bay.

OCUK Village for teh win.

The hacking won't be as bad as DayZ because of the way the Arma engine pushes all information out to all parties. However, being a PC game it will always be prone to manipulations through DirectX etc. I am confident it won't be too bad though and that the fact SOE are an MMO company by trade means they will be quite discrete with what they let local clients know.

Yeah its a shame hacks always ruin these types of games, Annoying putting in 100 hours into a game when someone can just come in with hacks and get what you had in 20 minutes.

The reason Day Z had massive hacking issues was due to arma engine and the fact it was coded in a stupid way that made cheating ridiculously easy (more info here http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/55030-hackers-what-you-need-to-know/)

H1Z1 is on the planetside engine so completely different. Sony have proved with Planetside they are right on top of hacking.

I'm not saying there won't be any hackers in H1Z1,(because there are some in planetside, no game is hack proof) but it will be as big of an issue as hacking is in planetside - ie not very.

Thats good news. Can't wait to try it now.

When's the next stream? I want to see this stuff. Good talk, especially after the failure of the last stream, but seeing is believing.

Yer ill just add to what others have said about hacking. It should be to a bare min I play a lot of planetside. I'd say its the least hacked game I've played. The way they update the game makes it harder than most games for the hacks to stay up to date. Don't get me wrong there's hacks out there but nothing like bf3 bf4 counter strike and all those other fps. Around 300-400 hrs on ps2 and I've only actually seen one myself. Go on bf4 and there 2 on every server.

I'm really excited about this. Let's hope it can life up to the hype.

@Neil79 did you get your press build bud ?

I'd like this to be the plan too.

encourage teaming up by limiting what characters can carry, but when a base/settlement whatever you want to call it is of a certain size you should be able to build a storeroom for everyone affiliated within that group to access and store any excess gear they have or want to share.

imagine a group of 5 for example heading out with only 2 armed and one carrying meds/food while the other 2 have to simply gather building gear etc.

none of this global inventory malarkey or being able to carry 25 guns, 20 wooden walls 200 cans of food!!

If it has stupid carry weight or global bank I'm out. That defeats the point if a survival game.
Although you would need some sort of bank for a hideout when no one from the group is online.
Hard one, but I hope it's well though out and not just the usual rubbish.

Will there be things to store stuff in like the tents in DayZ?

Early access is charged, but when will it open as a free to play game?

I just hope it doesn't kill off the new A3 Epoch mod.

yea a hard one to actually get right, global inventories and daft carry weights are a no no, but then again so is losing all your ill-gotten gains in one fell swoop (although if you opt to play as a lone wolf this must a risk you run)

don't know if at all feasible but would be nice if say a group of 10 build a base they can then build a strong room that can securely store 10 times the maximum group total carry weight (or something along those lines)

this option would also add some nice little 'real-life' scenarios, eg what if someone random wants to hook up, are they genuine or are they gonna plunder your store once accepted into the group. would make for some decent encounters I think

I wonder if theyll start selling stuff like that - specialist buildings and the like. It could be argued it doesnt interfere with the core gameplay mechanics and you could have some pre-existing requirements like certain sized settlement etc.

Obviously would be preferable not to but they have to monetise somehow, and im thinking the clothing isnt going to cut it.

yea true, gather 10 buddies build a base chip in and buy a secure vault. I could see that.

the problem I could also see being that there would have to be a cap on group/clan sizes and limits on what anyone group can buy or the smaller ones and lonewolf types wouldn't have a look in

They are doing a 12 hour livestream of the game on Tuesday starting at 5pm. They are also going to create a game feature live during that time.

They also released this short video teaser, check out the atmosphere the animations on the zombies and the sounds... really looking great.
