Had iTouch stolen, any point in reporting it?

Hey all, had my car broken in to a week ago and the scumbags took my iTouch and my sat nav.

Now obviously I can't track the sat nav because I have no way of doing so. But the iTouch has my name on the back and I have the original box (With the serial number on it), there is no recovery software installed but I've heard that if you report it to Apple they will put it on their database and it will flag up if it's ever taken into one of their stores for repair.

Obviously this is a huge long shot, but the combination of my full name on the back and the original box with serial number would be enough to prove it's mine.

My question is, is there any point doing any of this? I already had the window repaired, there's no point telling the Police because there's nothing they'd be able to do, and the iTouch can be had for maybe £100 for a good second hand one nowadays, I'd just like to get back at the bugger if he ever takes it into a store to get it looked at?

I would've reported the break in to the police regardless, the fact that a sat nav and iPod Touch were taken as well should just encourage you to report it even more.

I would contact Apple and get them to lock the hardware or stick it on a list or whatever if my gear was nicked.

Speaking of which does find my phone on mobileme only work with iphones, ipods and ipads? Or can you stick your iMac and MBP on there too?

What would be the point in reporting it to the Police? So they can come round, tell me there's nothing they can do and be on their way? I don't live in an area where crime is regular, in fact quite the opposite, this is more than likely a case of some kids who decided to mess around in the early hours of the morning and then got the train back to the depths of the bad end of Liverpool.

Reporting it would only achieve wasting my own time surely?

If you don't report it the Police are blind to any possible issues in the area. For all you know there could be a spate of theft from motor vehicles but no one is reporting it. What do you expect the Police to do if you don't report it?

You've got nothing to lose reporting it!

In future register all your property on the national property database Immobilise. If you ever get burgled or have stuff stolen you can give the Police access to your Immobilise profile. That way they know all the serial numbers of your property. Any property the Police come into contact with can be cross referenced with the Immobilise database.

Not Shirley.

The scum has likely broken into multiple cars, if they get a lead and find them your stuff might be found along with other peoples and it will get given back to you. Or you can just bend over.

Exactly, and it won't take you long to do - about 5-10 mins max on the phone.

Also, if you were to claim off your insurance then you would need a crime number.

Just to confirm - OP is from Liverpool and had left an iPod and a Sat Nav in an unattended Car?

And he's saying they were stolen!!??? NOWAI!

It uses the gps to track the phone/pad/touch so no.

Genuine iTouch. Pretty expensive stuff!

Mmm you've made me think now. I keep my sat nav and ipod in the glovebox or boot.

I always assumed if they got stolen I would have more on my plate anyway with a smashed window or possibly no car.

There must have been some evidence for high value goods for them to break in?
