hailea chiller project

Hi SolarNova

I have just built a system with a Hailea Ultra Titan 1500 (HC500=790W Cooling Capacity)

I cool the motherboard with the rampage v whole motherboard block, that does mofset and southbridge + 5930k cpu + 2x980ti's + RAM. Acrylic in the case.

It's not a quiet system, the chiller has some noise when it kicks in. I use a Eheim Universal 1262 Pump - 230v. It lives in my garage at the moment and I plan to move the PC to my upstairs office and pipe everything through. Not tried yet to see flow rates and pressures for upstairs water travel. Also, you have to start thinking of electrical relays to start pump and chiller if you want it to auto start from when PC is switched on/off. I have these parts but not setup yet.

I went down to 10C but had condensation on all pipes, no peltier. I'm happy just to leave between 20C-28C, cpu(some spikes in temp) and gpu's don't go over 34C even under stress when set to 28C. But the chiller does kick in more often than I thought it would, I'm thinking of adding some old rads in the loop to aid with cooling. But then maybe I should have saved all my money and got lots of rads!?

When I built the system first it was on air, haven't had an air system for a few years. (sealed triple rad cpu cooler). the 980ti's are very quiet, the cpu cooler was fine. could have lived with it. With the chiller and pump it adds around 470watts when chiller is on. Hence is like my old quadfire 290x setup in terms of running costs. Where as lots of rads and fans in the garage may have been a much cheaper option!

I think if you want to sustain 10c and if all running at stress, I reckon it will be on a lot. For 10C, It cools to 8C then stops, then starts at 12c. You have a large quantity of water, which is good for this, possibly that may be cooled in the winter months in the loft? Adding a radiator for 10c will not help you as it will warm up the water, unless ambient temp is less than 10c.

I have seen setups, where the system is cooled in a coil within a water-but outside the house, with rain water filling the water-but.(no running costs!)

If I add radiators, I shall add taps, so that I can run them in parallel, series, have them off or bypass the chiller (e.g. if it fails).

Hope this helps.

Hi SolarNova

snip.

Cheers for the feedback.

Im aiming for the HC1000 unit (1650w), which is the next one above the HC500. If the HC500 can handle a 5930k and 2x 980ti's, even if it does mean its on a lot, then the HC1000 should be perfect for me.

From comments iv seen, the HC1000 has a quieter compressor, but nosier fan, which if I really needed to I could easily Modify and switch out the single larger fan for a series of much quieter smaller fans, maybe Noctua 140mm NFA14 Industrial 2000's. But I doubt ill need to as it is going to be in the loft.

Because im putting it in the loft, in the winter it will have no issues at all as it get REALLY cold up their. BUT in the summer it gets REALLY hot, so the extra power of the HC1000 over the HC500 will help with that I think.

As for relays and such. Im already in the habit of turning my entire system of by the plug (after powering of normally) anyway as I don't like leaving my old power hungry Plasma and Logitech Z5500 speaker system on all the time, even if on standby.
I plan on using a switch box to turn on things separately.
1 for the PC,dehumidifier inside it, TV, and speakers.
1 for the pump(s) & Chiller

Thanks for pointing out that pump. I've heard the Eheim name thrown around a few times but never looked it up as the comment I originally saw stated it being similar to a D5, which after looking was probably the 1250. After looking up ur one, 3400L/H should be plenty if that is indeed what the Eheim Universal 1262 Pump can do, and it would be cheaper than using 2 MCP655's(D5's).

That said it has a lot less pressure than 2 D5's (7). I have no idea if 3.6 head pressure would be enough to push water down from the loft to the room below and back up again after going through the systems water blocks.

Anyway this isn't happening for a good while, I like to plan well in advance, I'm waiting on a suitable OLED display to release to replace my ageing plasma (I cant stand LCD). No point doing it sooner as my current system is perfectly capable for 1080p gaming.
