Halal, is it meat you're looking for?

Can anyone explain what people are up in arms about over halal animals that have been stunned before being slaughtered?

Isn't the same method used for non-halal meat except for reciting some religious verses?

Comments for the Daily Fail article are depressing.

I think they just need make it very clear by labeling the food as Halal. Then people can have a choice to eat it or not.

Not all animals are stunned, this is the biggest issue. It needs to be clear whether the animals are stunned or not.

It's a problem with labelling more than anything else.

And well there's a lot of racists out their, who will pick on anything.

, 97% of cattle, 96% of poultry and 90% of sheep slaughtered using the halal method in UK abattoirs are stunned before being killed –

And the rates on imported meat are even worse. Depending where its originated from..

I think most people just don't want religion to be involved with the preparation of food.

Does it change the taste of the meat, or the quality of the cut?

I can't understand this rubbish. Why do we care so much about how an animal spends it's last few minutes? Surely we should care more about how the animal has been reared if we're that concerned about the animals welfare and suffering?!

Well that's ok because there's no such thing as the Muslim race.

And you think that makes a difference. when the majority are from certain races. Nit-picking doesn't make you big or clever.

Also in UK and EU law, racism is mot defined purely by race. (race, colour, descent, national or ethic origin) are all covered.

So people keep spouting it's not a race therefore isn't racists, is well just dumb.

Some people do, which is why labelling needs to be better, and this isn't even the biggest labelling issue.

Why?

I'm not religious but don't care whether someone has prayed near my food or not!

I can only understand people of other religions having an issue with it. For none religious people the whole concept of prayer is invalid and irrelevant.

Indeed, it's no different from if they were discussing a football game or how wasted they got over the weekend at the time of slaughter...

As a joke, I once asked at my works canteen if the pork chops they were selling that day were Halal. I was told yes. LOL.

I..............don't really care. If it is just as cheap and easy to kill everything "Halal" and that means more people will be happy to eat it, I don't really see the issue?

Personally I think it is ridiculous, but to some it is important, and if it makes no difference in taste, cost or availability of meat for myself, then I couldn't care less.
