Halal, is it meat you're looking for?

why use a medieval practice when modern methods are proven to be better, my point is we used to do stupid things and believe stupid things then we became civilised.

What proof?

So an stunning electric shock to the head is better than a meat grinder, who told you the cow the sheep etc.

The is no proof of anything its just what we think is right or wrong.

I would rather die in my sleep springs to mind, thats fine but no one put a 50kv cattle prod in your head before, or a stun bolt through your head.

If you want to get all liberal and concerned dont eat meat or fish because they all have to die some way and no matter what why you look at it, you still killing another living creature. How you do it still same out come!

RSPCA report on Stunning and Halal slaughter

I thought if it was pre stunned it wasn't truly Halal = Hippocratic? or like most religious stuff is a half assed effort appease a god better than no effort ?

it depends...

as illustrated in the sharia compliant banking thread there can be different interpretations on what is/isn't allowed as far as exploiting workarounds/loopholes in god's laws

some say pre-stunned halal meat isn't halal, others accept it

The idea behind halal meat is that it results in a slow death. While most people would prefer a quick and painless death you would be better off if it were slower. Death is the worst thing that can happen to an animal and so by killing it slowly it isn't as bad. Some religions take it further and don't kill animals for food at all. Which is what we all should be doing ideally.

Which religions would these be?

I'm making more of an effort to cut my meat intake right down now. Watching slaughterhouse vids, halal or not has made me feel ill.

personally I don't like the idea of an animal being religiously sacrificed and think religion should be kept away from non religious people.
I wouldn't want coke that's been made with blessed water either.. you religious nutters should be kept at arms length

If you don't believe in it, then how is blessed water any different to normal water?

Subways perhaps have seen a large percentage of their customers are Muslim in some branches, and have adapted to offer them a larger variety and it has worked.

Except they haven't adapted to offer anyone a larger variety, they've adapted to offer less variety. I don't think anyone would have batted an eyelid if they'd been serving halal options alongside their existing menu, the issue people have is with the removal of items from the menu.

Which religions would these be?

Some schools of buddhism for a start. If you're interested in it, there are plenty of resources online.
