Don't be ridiculous. While Valve have undoubtedly changed their business model with the success of skins and loot crates, they still are a game developer, and do develop games. HL:Alyx was announced/released very suddenly out of no where with almost no hype (or rather, it was announced so close to release that there was little time for hype), and it's actively developing Deadlock, so they do still develop games, just very selectively now, and they are clearly quite protective over HL, and want each instalment to be memorable with significant technological advancements. It's just a matter of what advancements.

And the success of singleplayer games like Wukong, Elden Ring, etc. just prove how good, singleplayer games are still much sought after by gamers.

The meer fact that Valve have such a lucrative "side business" if you will in skins, effectively granting them unlimited budget, and the fact that they are still privately owned, plus HL being highly lauded and highly anticipated mean it's much more likely, surely? It's just a matter of when.
 
@mrk should really be combined for starting threads like this.

As others have stated; I just do not see Valve bothering with this. It is not really a commercial decision but more based on wanting to push boundaries / demonstration of new hardware / technologies. The sentiment was echoed by Gaben in an interview he did years ago.

As someone, like many others, who played the first game at release and then endured the wait between 1 and 2 and then via the episodic content. Played the Portal games which extended the universe and provided extra beats to the overall story-line. Cheered when HL:A was released as a mechanism to promote VR.

But then left for years, nay decade+, twiddling your thumbs and howling at any hint of news relating to hl3.

Agreed. It took me quite a few goes to clear the strider section, and it was getting really tedious. There again I didn't like the bits in the car or boat either as I was playing in VR using the mod and it wasn't very intuitive. Those sections giving me motion sickness didn't help either, though fortunately they did break it up a bit.

..and finished it. It's very, very short. Few glitchy bits, headcrab ragdolling needs some work as they look like they're breakdancing sometimes.

It's very short but there are a few areas that can be explored, no idea what the green bits are for, I have half the achievements to do still so will go back and check those out.

Like it though, just need a HL2 mod in UE 5.4.4 and that would be amazing :eek:
