*** Half-Life: Alyx ***

thanks for all the info guys

Quest 3, 128GB enough? I'd favour games running from the PC. Maybe some fun stuff for the kids that is built in, but its the usual **** take on the storage pricing.

Quest 3 worth the extra over the 3S?

Seems like the 128GB version of the 3 is being phased out? A few places have the 128GB for £360 ish refurbished with warranty, not really any cheaper used on ebay. 3S starts at around £290 ish, so £70 more for the 3.

I bought a refurbished Quest 3 128GB over Christmas. I use a mixture of games running off the headset and wirelessly streamed from PC. I don't find lack of storage to be an issue. When researching the purchase I found that text is a lot sharper off centre on the Quest 3 compared with the 3S so I feel it's worth the extra money. I was upgrading from a very old Oculus Rift CV2 so was quite the upgrade in image quality.

If you can find a cheap Quest Pro I think it's even better for PCVR (I have both a Pro and a Q3), but it is discontinued and it's now more in demand because VR Chat users buy it for the face and eye tracking.

Didn't it also have OLED panels? Nice deep blacks.

It has QLED panels with local dimming zones. The colour gamut is far wider than the Q3, and the dimming zones allow for much better contrast. However there aren't that many dimming zones so you do get glowing around bright objects on a black background.

Q3 looks very washed out by comparison.

Q3 is a far better all-round headset though, due to the more powerful SOC and better Mixed Reality mode.

In all fairness, I never used VR again after Alyx :p

TBF, 99% of the games are just bedroom developers pushing out shovel ware they whipped up during a Unity tutorial. Or very basic ooooh look you can push a lever type stuff. Alyx is far above and beyond pretty much everything else.
