Halfords 3-year battery warranty is a joke.

Why? Where else can you get what halfords sell on the high street and quickly. Most Independent motor factors are even more expensive.

I've no idea why people are hoping for Halfords (and many others) to go bankrupt.
The "who's next" thread in GD is full of stuff like "I CAN'T WAIT FOR COMET TO GO UNDER, RIP OFF MERCHANTS LOL"

I work in a rather big retailer and during our first day of returns someone brought back a product that was faulty, he asked for a replacement but we'd sold out so I said all I could offer him was a refund (generally trying to be helpful, last thing I want is trouble).

"NO I DON'T WANT A REFUND, I KNOW THE LAW YOU HAVE TO REPLACE IT OR GIVE ME A MORE EXPENSIVE ONE!"

After I explained I would not give him the new model up (over double the price of the cheapest one he had brought) he just started shouting "I HOPE TOYS R US GOES UNDER!" over and over again as I filled out the paper work and got his money.

Nice

People are nuts. Halfords is great to have around for when you need stuff in a hurry... Both my brother and my dad have had warranty claims done on their batteries, both times no questions other than "Have you tried charging it". I had a warranty job done on my mountain bike and they never even asked for the receipt- just looked at it, saw it was an 08 model, and did it no questions asked. Three different branches, 3 good results. But it's a huge chain, it's no wonder that there's some bad stories about.

What inspired you to use Halfords for such a complicated item?

I buy, oil, screen wash, bulbs, and coolant from them if I can't order online or through a dealer.

They cannot be trusted for anything so advanced. They have torched more than one member of fiatforum's cars by trying to fit a radio. And fitting kiddie seats!! they're asking for trouble. Professional Mechanics are prohibited from touching a child seat (Halfords employees are professionals, but they aren't mechanics).

Went to halfords to get a new coil for the mini as the current one is knackered, and causing it to misfire, they wanted £55 for something that everywhere else want £20 for!

Is this a serious post? What has Halford's fitting capabilities got to do with the quality of their products? Is a car battery a complicated item now and do you really think that Halfords make their own batteries at the back of the shop or something?

There are 2 problems here.

1. The battery is faulty. Not what I'm getting at.

2. The idiot behind the counter is a complete idiot, and either doesn't understand electronics enough to refuse a replacement/refund in this case, or isn't allowed to use his skills, in which case a refund/replacement is in order.

I'm not saying Halford batteries are bad (which they might well be), I'm saying the staff are mostly idiots, and the companies policies/legal stance, backs them up with yet more idiocy.

Is this where you say you work for them?

I've never had a good experience with halfords. All the employees in my local store have been completely clueless and unwilling to help at all. Not to mention rude on several occassions (just plain ignoring people).

Your best bet is to usually find the oldest employee and hope it's the manager. I'd never go in there to buy anything though now if I could help it.

Just bought a battery from them last week :( its been on its way out for ages and it finally packed up at the retail park right outside halfrauds! Hopefully i don't have any problems with mine.

this is the main problem and its mainly due to poor pay ,you get a decent guy come along but they don't hang around !

Or go truck driving! ;)

I worked for a few years in retail before I started driving for a living, I realised that the drivers got more than many store managers , I did not have to work with colleagues that the above description fits perfectly! And , the best bit of all, no dealing with shop customers.......

Regardless of chain, you get some guy behind the counter who does not give a ****, or, may have previously had a real **** of a customer and decided to give some back to the next guy...... (Ahem) :D

I'd have thought a letter to the Manager should sort this out, but best to **** 'em off first, eh? ;):p:D:D:D

If you use it as intended it's unlikely you'll have any problems with it. Lead acid batteries won't hold charge over a prolonged period of time and need regular charging. They're permanently damaged if the voltage drops to low. I'm sure the instructions that came with the battery will explain this so if I was a Halfords employee I'd refuse to replace it as it's clearly be misused.

In my own cars batteries seem to last at least 8 years if not longer.

Halfords is good for advice and buying your basic stuff like wires and such but for more complicated stuff independant stores are better.

They do have offers on though so price wise they are ok, It's just the stuff thats supposed to be cheap like wires that other people would give free hey have them up of like £4 its a matter of shopping around really, BUT don't ever get anything fitted from them, I would pay a bit more and get it done from a professional.
