Halfords 3-year battery warranty is a joke.

Or go truck driving! ;)

I worked for a few years in retail before I started driving for a living, I realised that the drivers got more than many store managers ,

funny you should say that as the only decent halifords bike mechanic in torquay went back to trucking due to poor pay

I'd have thought a letter to the Manager should sort this out, but best to **** 'em off first, eh? ;):p:D:D:D

I did ,the new bike mechanic was more interested in arguing with customers than fixing or selling bikes .

We had an Halfords car battery set fire to our car a few years ago, had to get the fire brigade out to put the fire out, .lucky it was only under the bonnet that caught fire, the firemen said that it was the battery that started it so we took it back to Halfords and they would have non of it, so we had it independently tested and that proved it was the battery and they still refused to except it.

All the Local auto shops around here will kill halfrauds on price for most things so they rarely get used by people in the know tbh. Only for their pro range of tools.

Got a battery for my sisters car the same as the one from halfrauds with a 3 year warranty for £20 cheaper.

I was under the impression people only used them if they really couldnt get the part etc from else where first.

That's shocking. Have you written to them? A car fire is pretty serious, they can get out of control pretty quick.

Yes, my local places are cheaper but the batteries usually have a shorter warranty, though they are changed no questions asked.

I'm very dubious about the "lifetime guarantee" on their pro tool range now, hence they are going back for a refund. I don't need to pay way over the odds for a spanner only to find they won't replace it when it breaks

They refused to swap a dead battery of mine because I didn't have a till receipt...I had a credit card statment with it on plus a battery that had bloody halfords plastered all over it and a manufacture/charge date well inside the warranty period.

I even demanded to speak to the manager and no matter how much of a fuss I kicked up they refused to budge. bunch of *****.

I'm sure if they did it would get taken seriously. our area which is about 19 stores had 5 complaints over the christmas period and they get dealt with, especially something like a car fire. You have to deal directly with head office rather than the store.

One of the older women in my shop has been in halfords for 20 odd year and argued with a guy over the ratchet in a 1/4" drive pro ratchet. If it was me i would have gave him it, it's 1/4" hardly as if he tightened head bolts with it.

Me n kieranV on here run the show at bikes and generally are nice guys who actually give a ****.

On the other hand some people don't tell you the full story and like to blame halfords and get them an even worse reputation.

you only need proof of purchase which you had ,should have asked for the head office address !

I was in the Loughborough store picking up some ratchet spanners in a sale recently and a geezer was trying to exchange a dead battery. The guy said he would accept anything as receipt - credit card statement/banks statement, anything really to show he bought it new.

Completely off topic.

Why? Where else can you get what halfords sell on the high street and quickly. Most Independent motor factors are even more expensive.

All of my local independent motor factors are better than Halfords on price, and they are local too, unlike Halfords who are at least an hours drive away. They also have almost all the parts I need in stock, and if they don't, they will overnight them at no extra cost.

On topic.

Personally I've not had a problem with Halfords items, I expect the parts to be cheaply made (but expensive to buy) and so would not be surprised if something broke. Having said that I've never had any of their things break on me. When I bought a battery I fitted it within minutes due to my previous one being dead (wasn't holding a charge and had to bum start the car a few times). The battery out lasted the car as far as I'm aware, and was sat for a quite a few months doing nothing at all when I wasn't using it, and worked when it was put to use again after the time off. :)

I also bought a halfords battery with 5 year warranty, it lasted 3 years
they wont exchange saying it isn't faulty - but it doesnt bloody work. it wont charge at all.

apparently its my fault for
a) either doing too many short journeys
b) not enough long journeys or long journeys not long enough
c) not using the car because of covid ( its used daily)
and lastly d) well something on the car must have drained the battery past the point of no return.

I'm declaring war on halfords.

I worked at Halfords for 2 years (ended 2 years ago) and I would just replace any battery no questions asked as long as you had a receipt that was in date... even without receipt sometimes I would exchange if it was a halfords / yuasa battery. Try a different branch.
