Halo 3 Multiplayer - What do I need to know?

So I was bored on XBL last night and a mate and I decided to have a blast on Halo 3. I haven't enjoyed it in the past, I much preferred objective type games with more realism like COD. However, it was great fun! I know there are lots of different add-on's etc so wanted to get an idea of what i'll need to buy, the best game modes etc.

So, what do you suggest? Where is the most fun to be had?

Well, available maps currently are:
Heroic map pack-Free
Cold storage-Free
Legendary Map pack- 600 points
Mythic map pack-800 points
My favourite game mode is either 1 flag CTF, 1 sided assault or team slayer.

I downloaded the free ones but it seemed as if I needed the rest as well to be able to access certain game types.

Is there one particular map pack that is played more than the rest?

No because they're in rotations on bungies playlist. I'd wait until the expansion pack to buy any maps, just DL the free ones for now.

Scheduled for before christmas 09, and yes it comes with every single map available. If you're playing a lot though I'd say its still worth buying the new ones.

Avalanche-Good
Blackout- Alright (not as good as lockout)
Ghost town - pretty poor
Mythic:
Sandbox- Good
Orbital Great
Other mythic map - good

Well a lot of the game modes need the additional DLC so i'm thinking I have pretty much no choice but to buy them if I want all of the modes available to me? These were within the social menu.

So who's going to be playing again, I've been playing non stop for a while, mainly social slayer with my mate, but it seems like we've reached a plateau, we always seem to be let down horrifically by the rest of the team, I'm not buying the extra maps so there arent many other playlists.

Anyone who wants to play add me (V4NT0M) and invite me whenever you're in the mood.

Everyone loves halo 3 online. I've never been a big fan but it seems loads of people still play it a lot.

Is it worth getting purely for the multiplayer? (i completed it co-op with a friend)
