Halo: Reach

Can I ask why? :)

I'm not trying to be a ****, or catch anyone out, I'm just trying to understand what was so bad :).

A lot of the popular weapons in Combat Evolved were balanced for 2 and beyond around the assumption that they would always be dual-wielded, and with specific combos in mind. It threw off the entire weapon balance.

A good example would be the plasma pistol and plasma rifle. They were highly effective and good weapons, which were seriously considered even over other weapons like the sniper rifle and the rocket launcher (this was the beauty of Combat Evolved; each weapon was deadly and useful). In Halo 2 & 3 they were drastically weakened.

Now because they are going to be single-held weapons again, Bungie can balance once again around the idea of carrying one of each weapon that you have to switch between.

Dual wielding back then in Halo 2's day was just another tickbox to excite all the little ADHD boys. It's not what Halo is about.

Um, what  Maybe in Halo 3, but in Halo 2 the noob combo (plasma pistol in one slot, BR in the other) was one of the most powerful combinations! and plasma gun + SMG was fantastic on any close quarters map. I'd hardly say they were drastically weakened.

In other news, I just watched the vidoc....holy crap. I can't wait for this game.

Doesn't matter, dual wielding was poorly implemented and it speaks volumes of how Bungie feels about it that they're leaving it out of their swansong Halo game.

This just looks like another Halo game, so much hype.....
It's hyped but so what? Series with millions of fans tend to get that so ignore the hype, judge the game on it's own merits. But as for the 'just looks like another Halo game', you must have not bothered listening :p Sadly they can't state enough new things to please everyone and keep a series loyal enough for the real fans.

Anyway for me the vid doc just showed there's plenty of balancing changes, new in-game things to play with (sprinting and perks), there will be new weapons, new campaign, new hud, new multiplayer levels and possibly modes. How much more do I need? If I want something different I buy something different, Halo is for fans of Halo. Does that not make sense? Or should we expect the next zelda or Uncharted to revolutionise gaming and not be like the old ones too?

Looks like there has been a leaked trailer for the Halo Reach Beta and so far it craps all over Halo 3 by the looks of it :)

So it's just halo 3 with jetpacks?

All Halo games have always been the same, what I'm talking about is that overall it seems much better.

E.g.
How many times have you actually been killed by a dual wielder in Halo 3? Almost never because he gets owned by the BR long before he even gets close, but now it actually looks like every weapon is useful again thanks to them ditching dual wielding which messed up the balance.

There is also the useful stuff like the roll mechanic they seem to have put in which could mean the difference between a headshot or a body shot from a sniper.

Hopefully this will be my new Halo 2 that keeps me entertained for years to come.

It does look better, but only as a result of post-processing. It looks like they've taken a generic toolkit and applied it across the board :/

The same annoying physics model seems to still be in place too.
