stunning bit of writing. really emotional.

just hope that top gear is hear to stay. its one of the few programs that i actually look forward to watching. i really hope that the BBC fight to keep it.

It was the BBC who started talk of pulling it. Looks like Jezza won't let it go without a fight though.

Good to read in that article that Richard seems his usual self. Fingers crossed for zero further complications and a speedy recovery.

Taking Top Gear off the air would be like kicking every honest man the world over in the balls.

These guys are true legends and bring to TV what most men envy them for, and do it with pure British class.

I'm glad he's ok for the most part. Peoples reaction to this has restored my faith back into so ciety for the most part. Becasue if anything, he truely deserves the attention.

If the Beeb pull it JC'll just move it to one of the Sat/Cable Channels and Loose the BBC quite a few Vewers/Ratings on a Sunday Evening...

It's JC's Show remember!!...

S'Tiff Nedels has 5th Gear (crap) and JC has TopGear!...

As far as I'm aware, its the BBC's news agency arm that have called for it to be pulled (though they haven't been quite as damning as to say it straight out), not the broadcasting arm.

Gotta remember the bbc news agency is one of the largest and most respected in the world, and is not under any pressure to take into account what is best for the broadcasting arm.

Great article by Clarkson, he'll be getting the sack off the sun for writing as much truth as that :p good to hear Richard sounds in decient condition, shows how much craps been in the media about it when while he was getting up to go to the toliet at about the time when bog papers like the mail were misquoting Clarkson saying he was 50/50 to even live!

Top gear wont die even if the beeb do cow tow to the health and safety brigade I reckon ITV or Channel 4 would have it as well as Sky 1.

one thing i dont understand, and somethign which is totally off topic, is why that car supposidly holds the brittish land speed record @ 300.3mph. ive seen a pair of budwieser funny cars do 330+ side-by-sede at the quarter mile @ santapod, doesnt that count?

anyway, well done hammy. you're all ok and youve raised some decent money in the process lol:)

Nope, to claim the land speed record you must take the average of two runs (Back and forth) over a certain distance.

No way!! Top Gear has got to stay.
British tv has only a handful of decent programmes to watch, and as far as the current "no actors, no scripts no proper story line, new genre of tv," this beats the lot. These guys are great, sure they toast cars, but they always tell you not not to be a prat, and that its your own fault if you are stupid enough to copy them.
Its practically morally right.

Its gotta stay, not only because its excellent fun viewing but because itll encorage space for more ,dial in, thinly veiled, quiz gambling rubbish

The BBC have defended the show in the past and I am hopeful they will do it again. There is simply no reason to 'cancel it'. If it means cutting back on the more dangerous stunts then so be it but cancelling it completely is just plain wrong.

But to be honest I can't really think of any dangerous stunts they've done in the past

The clips that the media keep using of that Icelandic jeep vs waterski episode and that Porsche 4x4 vs squirrel man episode aren't exactly what I'd call dangerous? I'd say the time they went on a cross-country tour in 3 super cars and Hammond was driving the Zonda without any electronic aids around those mountain cliffs - now that was dangerous... but he adapted his driving to suit - so it wasn't exactly impending doom.

Just read clarksons article and i must say its refreshing reading after all the bullcarp flying about on the news and media and even better the news that hammond seems to be on the mend :)

From what I understand the accident would've happened regardless of who was driving. Didn't a tyre blow or something?

In a crash at 275mph you're just a passenger whether you're Joe Bloggs or Michael Schumacher, so the arguments about whether he was qualified to be in the car are moot. He's not exactly Joe Public either, he's raced cars around tracks so he's used to speed.

If TG had stuck a regular member of the public in the car then I might agree they'd gone too far, but as it is I don't think they've done anything wrong at all.

Exactly, Hammond knew the risks and agreed to do it

The dragsters when they do 330+ are only timed over the last 60ft of the course, IIRC, to get the terminal speed reading.

To get a Land speed record rattified, you have first got to accelerate to that speed and then hold that speed for a measured mile, and then slow down again at the other end, hence the need for a VERY long piece of tarmac.
Once you have gained 300+ over the measured mile, you have to turn the car around and do it all over again within one hour. The final record is the average speed over both runs, to eliminate any gains from wind direction, or slope of the ground etc.
