Hammond Critical - Top Gear Car Crash!

Tis good news that's he's showing signs of getting better quickly.
Just been reading the thread on PH, they've raised £60,000 so far for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the YAA can claim another £15,000 on top of that.

As far as I'm aware, its the BBC's news agency arm that have called for it to be pulled (though they haven't been quite as damning as to say it straight out), not the broadcasting arm.

Gotta remember the bbc news agency is one of the largest and most respected in the world, and is not under any pressure to take into account what is best for the broadcasting arm.

Any news agency worth anything will report on facts instead of calling for TV programs to be axed. News agencies should report facts to the people, not try to influence them with propaganda. The BBC (news agency) aren't *that* respected any more....

TG will be back, the BBC will be shooting themselves in the foot if they can it.

The show is the one of the most downloaded programs on the internet (illegal) Its up there with the best, Lost, Stargate, Simpsons not bad for a show that costs 10 bob to make.

Top gear is always available online legally. From BBC2 site. So it's a bit like warezing freeware.

Just watching the bbc news and had to smile at a statement Richards family have issued saying they are overwhelmed at the support he's been recieving (apparently he's getting van loads of flowers and cards!!) but he's got so many flowers now he thinks James and Jeremy are gonna start taking the mickey so could people donate to the Air Ambulance instead :)

Must be pretty humbling to think of all the people who've taken time to send you stuff as well as the £60,000+ that has been raised for a very good cause.

one David Curtis just donated a whoping £50k  total now £126k
Good for him - works all round really - he gets tax relief from the government and the copter can fly for a while and they can claim back on that sum too. Wow - if only I had that money to play with avoiding tax ...

re: canning top gear, i could understand this decision if hammond never recovers well enough to make it back to the show. top gear being so great has as much to do with the dynamic of the three of them as much as the subject matter and things they do, and if that changed i could understand it vanishing for a while.

fingers crossed

Top gear wont be canned. Simple as that. 5 million viewers plus a week means that they wouldnt dream of cancelling it.

Supposedly the BBC doesn't work from ratings though like every other channel. You really have to wonder what their "do we make another series" criteria is...

Maybe not at the lower end of the scale (bbc3, mighty boosh, caterick, comedy shows etc). But shows like top gear aired on traditional terrestrial channels are bread and butter. In reality its one of the shows that makes us feel a bit better about having to pay a high license fee, and more importantly (for the BBC) it guarantees a rating, which in turn guarantees a healthy review of the royal charter.

Another good article from JC, lets hope he can keep TG on the TV :)
Agreed.

I have heard that the airing of the next series has already been delayed though.
