Hammond Critical - Top Gear Car Crash!

my thoughts are also with his family. Although "shudder to the thought" if he was to go it was in the best possible way doing what he loves :(

papers on bbc24 now

sun says it was going 315mph :(

edit: well beaten

says the speed is being argued about.

also says you could post the parts of the car thru a letter box :(

i hate the Sun for stuff like that always goes for the shocking comments when usually theyve fabricated most of it

Awful news, top bloke, met him at the NEC Motorshow 2 years ago.

Hope you have a quick and speedy recovery Richard and my thoughts with your family.
I dont think he reads the boards but im sure he appreciates the comments.

Hammond must live!.. and to think i was watching him on TopGear UK Tv repeats without even knowing the poor man had been in an accident..

It's made partly of fibreglass and the engines are designed to break away from the chassis, so yes it will look devastating. But like most modern machinery the cockpit is designed to protect the pilot and passengers while the rest of the car sheds weight and absorbs impact.

It's funny how this guy does a couple of shows but makes headline news just for being his genuine honest self. Shows what an idolic brit really is.

Vampire weighs 2,200 lbs. The car is 30 feet long and drinks 7-10 gallons per mile of fuel. It accelerates at 0-272 in six seconds and is powered by a Rolls Royce Orpheus jet engine. The car is theoretically capable of 370mph.

I really hope he's OK. I'm counting on you guys to post the latest news - I don't have BBC News 24 here!

really gutted to hear this hes a great guy,

as for that report what the hell was that  , he told us nothing we didnt already know

The BBC are not releasing any more news, so its a waiting game.

But no news is good news, right. :(

Probably an NDA to coincide with tomorrows newspapers

I think that report was just for the perposes of the BBC having a feature on it, having ITV beat them to it.

I hope there isn't a media frenzy and the whole "whose fault is it?" row. I find it most disrespectful. Hopefully its saved untill the outcome of his injuries is known fully.
